A four stroke internal combustion engine has a gas reserving chamberwhich communicates with an exhaust portand is configured to reserve burned gas discharged from a combustion chamber. The burned gas flows into the gas reserving chamberwhile an exhaust valve including a valve headand a stemis opened in an expansion stroke. The burned gas reserved in the gas reserving chamberis discharged to the combustion chamber while the exhaust valve is opened in an intake stroke.

Four stroke internal combustion engine

A four-cycle internal combustion engine is constructed such that a structure around a cylinder head is not complicated even though the engine has a plurality of cylinders, fuel consumption is improved, and nitrogen oxides are reduced. The engine has cylinder-sided passages, through which burnt gasses pass. Also, the engine includes an inter-cylinder passage in communication with the cylinder-sided passages.

Four cycle internal combustion engine and vehicle

A four-cycle engine is provided that includes an exhaust port for releasing combusted gas from the engine and an exhaust system. The exhaust system includes an exhaust pipe coupled with the exhaust port, a first catalyst, a second catalyst, and a secondary air introduction pipe. The first catalyst is disposed in the exhaust pipe and the second catalyst is disposed in the exhaust pipe a set distance downstream of the first catalyst. The secondary air introduction pipe is configured to introduce air into the exhaust pipe. The secondary air induction pipe is connected to the exhaust pipe between the first and the second catalysts at a location where a temperature difference of the first and the second catalysts in a cold start transient phase is within a predetermined range.

Exhaust system for an engine

An internal combustion engine and method for operating the engine wherein a leaner than stoichiometric air/fuel ratio is maintained under all running conditions. The desired torque curve is obtained by increasing the amount of boost generated to the intake air charge without enrichening the air/fuel mixture. In addition, an anti-knocking system is incorporated that avoids knocking by retarding the spark advance and, at the same time, providing a leaning in the air/fuel mixture.

Burning control system for engine

An improved compact high performance induction system for a V-type engine. The induction system includes a pair of plenum chambers each disposed above a respective one of the cylinder heads and each plenum chamber is provided with runners that serve common intake passages of both the adjacent and remotely positioned cylinder heads.

Intake system for automotive engine

An improved induction system for a V type engine that is tuned for substantially all running conditions and which is nevertheless compact in construction. The system includes a pair of plenum chambers each disposed adjacent one of the cylinder heads of the engine. Each cylinder head has at least two intake passages serving the respective cylinder bores and a first conduit extends from the adjacent plenum chamber to one of the intake passages and a second conduit extends from the other of the plenum chambers to the other intake passage. A throttle valve arrangement is also incorporated so that good performance is achieved under all running conditions. The plenum chambers communicate with each other as their opposite ends to improve airflow and a common inlet opening serves each plenum chamber inlet.

Intake system for multi cylindered engine

A compound induction system for an internal combustion engine embodying at least two intake passages serving each combustion chamber. A throttle valve arrangement is incorporated for controlling the flow through one of the intake passages and this throttle valve is opened in a staged sequence so that that induction passage will not act as a side branch resonant chamber under any experienced running conditions.

Intake system for engine

Vapors normally arising within a standing gasoline tank are captured in a charcoal filled cannister. When the engine is running, air is drawn through the cannister thereby purging gasoline adsorbed on the charcoal within the cannister and delivering the purged gasoline vapors to the carburetor ultimately for combustion within the engine. Interference by the presence of such accumulated gasoline vapors in the carburetor, particularly during warm restarts and idling, can be avoided by preventing the injection of these gasoline vapors into the carburetor at the inappropriate times. Selective withholding of the purged gasoline vapors from a piston type carburetor, having a piston throttle valve disposed into and out of a venturi portion of the carburetor, is accomplished by injecting the gasoline vapors into the venturi portion through a purge port within the carburetor at a point such that the leading edge and outside surface of the piston type throttle valve closes and seals the port when the throttle valve is in a fully closed position. Thus, during idling and warm restarts, when the throttle valve is closed, no evaporated vapors are allowed to fill the venturi portion of the carburetor. Purging of the gasoline adsorbed on the charcoal within the cannister is accelerated by increasing the effective area of the purge port as the throttle valve is opened.

Gasoline vapor capture and combustion system

A motor vehicle having a transversely disposed V-type engine with first and second exhaust manifolds associated with the forward and rearward cylinder banks, respectively. An exhaust pipe interconnects both of the exhaust manifolds with a single rearwardly positioned catalytic converter and an auxiliary catalytic converter is positioned in the exhaust pipe so that only the exhaust gases from the forwardmost exhaust manifold pass through it.
