A shoulder harness includes a harness network () composed of right and left shoulder belts () and a side-fitting belt () for fitting on the left side of an operator's chest and joining at one end with front ends of the shoulder belts () on a stomach area of the operator. The shoulder harness further includes an intermediary member () connected to the harness network () via a holding member () and supporting a hook () for retaining a working machine. The right and left shoulder belts () are shaped asymmetric such that a shoulder-fitting portion (Le) of the left shoulder belt (Le) curves or slants toward the working machine retained on the hanging element ().

A portable trimmer has a supporting tube extending straight forward from an engine at its rearward end to a cutting device at a forward end. A handle-bar is mounted on a middle portion of the supporting tube at an intersecting point. First and second grips extend upwardly from two corresponding ends of the handle-bar. The handle-bar has a first portion extending from an intersecting point to the first grip, and a second portion extending from the intersecting point to the second grip. The first portion extends across a width of an operator's body, and is bent in a rearward direction. The supporting tube has an inclination with respect to a phantom line connecting the first and second grips such that said cutting device is located in front of a center of the operator's body when the operator holds the grips in a natural posture. This portable trimmer increases the area in which weeds can be cut in a single movement, and provides for easy handling.

A portable trimmer for cutting weeds comprises a cutter, a driving device for rotationally driving the cutter, a control lever for controlling power of the driving device, a braking device for stopping rotation of the cutter, and an interlocking device operatively connected with the control lever and the braking device. The braking device has a wedge shaped brake shoe that is connected with the interlocking device and has an inclined upper surface inclined downwardly from a rotationally retarded side toward a rotationally advanced side of the cutter, a housing enclosing the brake shoe and having an inclined guide surface opposite to the inclined upper surface of the brake shoe, and a pressing device provided between the brake shoe and the housing and for causing an initial movement of the brake shoe toward a cutter surface of the cutter. The inclined guide surface guides the brake shoe from a braking position to a released position where the brake shoe is spaced from the cutter surface by being moved toward the rotationally retarded side of the cutter by being pulled by the interlocking device against a pressing force applied by the pressing device.

A portable trimmer has a supporting tube with a forward end on which is mounted a cutting device. The cutting device has a case with a first hole for receiving a stick, and also contains a rotatable shaft with a threaded end. A seating member that is rotatable with the shaft has a second hole that can be aligned with the case's first hole. A rotatable cutter is removably mounted on the rotatable shaft, fixed to against the seating member by a nut that engages the shaft's threads. The stick is inserted into the first hole in the case and the second hole in the rotatable seating member, to prevent rotation of the seating member during assembly and disassembly. The cutting device retains the stick in the first and second holes even when the cutting device is upside down. This retention is accomplished, either by a biasing member that biases the stick in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the first hole, or by an elastic member that frictionally engages the stick in the hole.

A disengagement-preventing mechanism for a vibration isolator is interposed between an attachment sleeve portion of prime mover and an operating rod in a bush cutter. The disengagement-preventing mechanism includes an attachment sleeve portion, an attachment member which is to be inserted in and engaged with the attachment sleeve portion, and a C-shaped disengagement-preventing clip. The attachment sleeve portion is provided, at a peripheral wall thereof, with a clip-introducing slit extending in a circumferential direction of the attachment sleeve portion and with a clip-holding slit located so as to face the clip-introducing slit. The disengagement-preventing clip is adapted to be introduced from outside into the clip-introducing slit and brought into contact with an external end face of the attachment member. The clip is also adapted to be engaged, by way of the distal end portion thereof, with the clip-holding slit.
