The turning-radius calculation unit determines a turning radius corresponding to a steering angle based on a predetermined relationship between a steering angle and a turning radius. The base tilt-angle calculation unit calculates a current instantaneous tilt angle of a vehicle body during short-term steady-state turning based on the turning radius and the vehicle speed. The transient tilt-angle calculation unit corrects the initial calculated tilt angle of the vehicle body based on a transient turning radius when a variation of the steering angle is equal to or greater than a predetermined value. When the variation is less than the predetermined value, the transient tilt-angle calculation unit calculates the lateral-G corrected transient tilt angle.

A motor driven stand device for a motorcycle has motors for driving stands for self-sustaining a vehicle body in a parking state in which a rear wheel is lifted and in a stopping state in which the rear wheel is contacted with the ground. A parking switch gives an instruction to the motor for self-sustaining the vehicle body in the parking state. The stopping switch is arranged in a right handlebar grip. The parking switch is arranged in a stand step and/or a grab rail. An automatic stopping control unit rotates the stands by a predetermined amount in response to an on operation of the stopping switch in an automatic stopping mode and rotates the stands for the stopping state while an on operation of the stopping switch is maintained in a non-automatic stopping mode.

A power transmission mechanism of a motorcycle includes a drive case which is disposed at the rear end of and outside of a rear swing arm, and which surrounds the axle of a rear wheel and incorporates a transmission device. In addition, the power transmission mechanism includes a drive shaft extending from an output shaft of an engine for transmitting power of the drive shaft to the rear wheel. The transmission device converts the direction of a driving force of the drive shaft and transmits it to the rear wheel. The drive shaft constituting part of the power transmission mechanism is disposed below the rear swing arm and the pivot shaft. The result is a motorcycle configuration that suppresses the vehicle width without expanding the rear swing arm.

A control method for a transmission for a motorcycle having a plurality of shift gear trains such that the combination of gears meshing with each other is changed by driving an actuator to change a shift position. When a vehicle body inclination angle &#x3b2; as a sideward inclination angle of a vehicle body of the motorcycle during running of the motorcycle becomes greater than or equal to a predetermined angle, a change in shift position in the transmission is inhibited. The method controls the transmission for the motorcycle in order to reduce an operational load on a rider during turning of the motorcycle.

Control method for transmission for motorcycle

A motorcycle with a low floor is configured such that secondary vibration of an engine can be largely reduced and an increase in engine width can be suppressed. The motorcycle with a low floor includes step floors on which to put a rider's feet on left and right sides of a vehicle body frame. An engine is provided between the step floors. A plurality of exhaust pipes extend respectively from cylinders of the engine, the exhaust pipes being gathered at a gathering portion. The engine is an in-line 3-cylinder engine having cylinder portions inclined forwardly. The exhaust pipes extend downwards from the cylinder portions on the basis of each cylinder. The exhaust pipes are bundled and extend on the right side of the engine, in a position on the lower side of one of the step floors.

A transmission is provided for changing gears by performing rotation control of a shift drum transmission between an internal combustion engine and a drive wheel by use of an actuator provided on one side of the shift drum and an intermittent feed mechanism driven by the actuator disposed on the other side of the shift drum.

A strainer device for a fuel tank includes a sucking passage member provided with a passage opened in the fuel tank; a filtering member attached to the sucking passage member for covering a hole of the passage; and a conduit connecting portion extending outside the fuel tank for connecting a conduit for guiding fuel passing through the filtering member. The conduit connecting member is attached to the sucking passage member, so that a concave portion is formed at a connecting portion for receiving a check valve for preventing the fuel from flowing back from outside of the fuel tank.

A twin-clutch transmission wherein a center distance between input shafts and an auxiliary speed-change shaft can be shortened and the number of gears can be reduced. A twin-clutch transmission is provided which includes a first input shaft and a second input shaft, an auxiliary speed-change shaft, and a plurality of gear pairs. The first and second input shaft are connected, through a first clutch and a second clutch, respectively, to an input element, and disposed on the same axis. The auxiliary speed-change shaft is disposed parallel to the first and second input shafts. The plurality of gear pairs are provided between the first and second input shafts and the auxiliary speed-change shaft. An input path from the input element to the first clutch is different from that to the second clutch, and primary ratios of the input paths are set to values, respectively, different from each other.

Twin-clutch transmission

To provide a windscreen apparatus which can provide a good screening effect from traveling wind from the front of a driver while suppressing the height of the screen. The windscreen apparatus includes a front cowl having a screen mounted to a vehicle body. An upwardly opening air outlet port is provided at the center portion of the upper portion of the screen. An air duct for communicating the air outlet port and an air introduction port provided in the front cowl is formed in the screen.

A rotary-body type throttle valve for a spark ignition internal combustion engine is disclosed. The valve includes a valve casing, an intake passage formed with a rotary-body recess portion, a valve element having a rotary-body shape which is rotatably fitted into the rotary-body recess portion of the valve casing, and a communication passage that permits an upstream intake passage and a downstream intake passage to communicate with each other is formed in the valve element. The upstream intake passage and the downstream intake passage sandwich the rotary-body recess portion of the valve casing. A through hole which is directed from the communication passage of the valve element in a direction intersecting a central axis of the communication passage and reaches only one of rotary outer surfaces of the valve element is formed in the valve element. This arrangement results in a reduced flow resistance by decreasing the size and number of vortices generated during partially opened states of the valve element.

Rotary-body type throttle valve for spark ignition internal combustion engine

There is provided a provide a solenoid actuator which is capable of smoothly driving a driven member, with enhanced durability, and at the same time permits the stroke of the driven member to be changed with ease. A solenoid actuator drives a valve by an electromagnetic force such that the valve performs reciprocating motion. An armature is connected to the valve, for performing reciprocating motion in accordance with energization and deenergization of at least one electromagnet to thereby drive the valve such that the valve performs the reciprocating motion. The armature has two end faces extending in parallel with each other in a direction orthogonal to a direction of the reciprocating motion thereof. Two guide joints have respective two guide surface opposed to the two end faces of the armature, each formed with two armature guides. The two guide joints slidably guide the reciprocating motion of the armature in a state of the two end faces of the armature being in line contact with the four armature guides of the two guide surfaces thereof.

Solenoid actuator

It is an object of the present invention to provide a shift control method for an electric-power-assist transmission having excellent operability. In the shift control method, a main clutch is put in an engaged or disengaged state in a manner interlocked with the rotation of a shift spindle, and the main clutch is put back in an engaged state after being released from an engaged state by the rotation of the shift spindle with a rotational speed thereof changed from a high speed to a low speed with predetermined timing.
