A method for surface modification of a material by means of introducing the phosphorylcholine group represented by the following formula (1-1) onto the surface of the material by treating a material having amino groups with a chemical compound containing an aldehyde derivative obtained by the oxidative ring-opening reaction of glycerophosphorylcholine.  The method of the present invention provides various materials such as medical materials having superior biocompatibility and hydrophilicity.

The present invention relates to a sample injection device, a sample injection method, and a liquid chromatograph that control the flow of a mobile phase using a switching valve. The sample injection device includes a port connected to a separation column, a pump for supplying a mobile phase, first and second sample injection needles, a syringe, and a valve configured to selectively connect the first sample injection needle to the pump or the syringe and to connect the second sample injection needle to the pump. When the first sample injection needle is attached to the port, the first sample injection needle is connected to the pump through operation of the valve. When the second sample injection needle is attached to the port, the first sample injection needle is connected to the syringe and the second sample injection needle is connected to the pump.

A method of producing a polymer packing material for liquid chromatography includes the steps of swelling seed polymer particles to form swelled particles, polymerizing monomers in the swelled particles under existence of diluent, and removing the diluent to form porous polymer particles, wherein the step of polymerizing the monomers is conducted under existence of a compound having a conjugated double bond not reactive with the monomers and having a molecular weight of 100-500. Alternatively, the polymerization process may be conducted by an oxidation reduction polymerization process. Further, the porous polymer particles obtained after removal of the diluent may be subjected to a heat treatment process at a temperature of 100.degree. C. or higher.
