A solid fuel in which an oil mixture containing a heavy oil fraction and a solvent fraction is incorporated in fine pores of a porous coal. The improved porous coal is produced by mixing an oil mixture containing a heavy oil fraction and a solvent fraction with a porous coal to obtain a starting slurry, heating the starting slurry to dewater the porous coal, and incorporate, at the same time, the oil mixture into the fine pores of the porous coal and then subjecting the treated slurry to solid-liquid separation.

Thermal treated coal which has a water content of not more than 10%, which has pores with an oil adsorbed onto and impregnated into the pore surface, and which is decarboxylated and dehydrated to have a reduced porosity is provided. In its manufacture, porous coal and an oil are mixed to prepare a slurry, and the slurry is heated for effecting slurry dewatering. During the slurry dewatering, oil is adsorbed onto the surface of the pores of the porous coal. Subsequently, the slurry is heated for refining, followed by a solid-liquid separation at the final stage.

A method for hydro-liquefying coal, the method comprising preheating a slurried mixture of a pulverized coal and a solvent, the preheated mixture being supplied to a plurality of reactors; separating a gaseous content from the products resulting from the reaction; dehydrating the gaseous content and removing a light oil content therefrom, thereby obtaining hydrogen-content gases; and recycling the hydrogen-content gases at least to the first reactor and supplying it to the bottom thereof so that the light oil content in the solvent is stripped.

Method of coil liquefaction by hydrogenation

A method for the liquefaction of brown coal which comprises effecting primary hydrogenation at a temperature and pressure sufficient to promote the efficient hydrogenation of a slurry prepared by adding an iron-based catalyst and a slurrying solvent to brown coal; distilling all or a portion of the primary hydrogenation product, whereby a naphtha fraction, a middle distillate oil fraction, a heavy distillate oil fraction and a distillation residue are produced; recycling a portion of said middle distillate oil, said heavy distillate oil fraction and said distillation residue to said primary hydrogenation step as the slurrying solvent; removing ash from the remaining portion of the distillation residue, thereby separating the same into an insoluble fraction containing ash, insoluble organic matter or a mixture thereof, and a soluble fraction as a solution in said solvent; and feeding said soluble fraction and said middle and heavy distillate fractions, to a fixed-bed column reactor packed with a molybdenum-based catalyst for secondary hydrogenation at a temperature and pressure sufficient to promote the efficient hydrogenation thereof; and separating the naphtha fraction from the secondary hydrogenation product and recycling all or a portion of the remainder to said primary hydrogenation step as the slurrying solvent therefor.
