An ink absorbent member is prepared for holding an ink stored in an ink storing section in an ink jet cartridge. Color ink jet recording method

Disclosed herein is an ink comprising a recording agent and a liquid medium dissolving or dispersing the recording agent therein, wherein the ink contains an imide compound and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of urea, thiourea and derivatives thereof, and volatile alkaline compounds.

An ink tank having an ink storing portion encases an ink-absorbent member for holding ink. The ink-absorbent member comprises a porous material having therein compressed open cells. The compression ratio r.sub.1 of an apparent volume V.sub.1 before compression to an apparent volume V.sub.2 after compression (r.sub.1 =V.sub.1 /V.sub.2) and the cell number p represented by number of cells per inch in the state of V.sub.1 satisfy the relation (I) below, and p being not more than 60.

A recording liquid, comprising a recording agent which is a component that forms a recorded image and a liquid medium in which said recording agent is dissolved or dispersed, wherein said recording agent comprises a dye represented by the Formula (A) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a methoxy group, a chloro group, a sulfonic acid group; X represents a residual group of an organic acid; and M represents a base selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal group, an ammonium group, and an organic amine group and at least one dye selected from the group consisting of C.I. Acid Red 131, C.I. Acid Red 274, C.I. Direct Red 227 and C.I. Direct Red 9.

There is disclosed ink-jet recording process for carrying out a recording by adhering ink droplets on a recording medium, wherein the recording is carried out under the condition that the ink is adhered in an amount ranging between 3.0.times.10.sup.5 pl/cm.sup.2 and 3.0.times.10.sup.6 pl/cm.sup.2 in solid image recording when the recording is carried out with a recording density of 10 dots/mm.times.10 dots/mm or more.
