A signal receiver which receives an optical signal from a remote control includes a light guide for guiding a light passing through a front panel window toward a photodetector mounted on a circuit board. The light guide is made of a homogeneous material. A light guiding portion of the light guide extending from an entrance end to an exit end has a substantially circular cross section and is curved gently, not angularly. The exit end is configured to have a concave surface which is coaxial with the axes of both the cross section of the light guiding portion and a light-receptive portion of the photodetector. The exit end is disposed adjacent and opposite to the light-receptive portion.

A remote controller for a television/video recorder having a function of measuring a body fat includes a display section for displaying a measurement of the body fat and a message questioning whether or not a user to be examined carries a specific medical device such as a pacemaker, a reply entry section for entering a reply to the message, and a control section for controlling the action of a body fat meter. The control section directs the display section to display the message prior to the measurement of the body fat. Then, when receiving from the reply entry section a reply indicating that the user carries a pacemaker, the control section inhibits the measurement of the body fat and directs the display section to display a message of the inhibition. When receiving from the reply entry section a reply indicating that the user carries no pacemaker, the control section enables the measurement of the body fat of the user through registering the physical data including the weight and the height of the user. This safety feature can thus protect and hold the user who carries a specific medical device such as a pacemaker in the safety.

A remote control is equipped with a pushbutton unit including a plurality of transverse linking sections linking pushbuttons in a transverse direction and a bridge section connecting the transverse linking sections at one side. This pushbutton unit is provided by integrally forming a first button group and a second button group respectively including a plurality of pushbuttons in a specified arrangement as a unit on a sheet-form elastic member in such a manner that pushbuttons of one button group are located between pushbuttons of the other button group and by cutting, along a specified cut line, this unit into two pushbutton units including transverse linking sections with pushbuttons linked in the transverse direction and a bridge section that connects the transverse linking sections at one side. Since the portion where any pushbutton of one pushbutton unit is not arranged can be used as the portion where a pushbutton of the other pushbutton unit is arranged in such a configuration, the wasteful use of material can be reduced. In addition, since two pushbutton units can be formed by one molding process, the forming man-hour per pushbutton unit can be reduced.

An object of this invention is to reduce the manufacturing cost by simplifying a reel rotation detecting mechanism in a video cassette deck. A light emitting element and a light receiving element are engaged on a main substrate provide under a deck chassis. On the deck chassis is mounted a light guiding member that includes a pillar portion extending through the deck chassis and a branch portion extending sideways from the pillar portion. In order to detect the leading ends and trailing ends of the magnetic tape, the pillar portion guides the light coming from the light emitting element into the cassette arranged on the deck. The branch portion, above the deck chassis, guides one portion of the light incident to the pillar portion to the reel on the deck chassis. The rotation of the reel is detected by receiving the light by the light receiving element on the main substrate through the opening point provided in the reel and the opening provided in the deck chassis.

For determining the body fat of a user to be examined, the body fat meter equipped television remote controller registers the physical data including the weight and the height of the user, measures the impedance across the body of the user, and transmits to a television receiver a body fat measurement signal which carries the physical data and the impedance measurement. The television receiver calculates the body fat of the user from the physical data and the impedance measurement carried on the body fat measurement signal and displays a resultant calculation of the body fat on its display provided for displaying images of the existing television broadcasting.

A station selector having a function of displaying a channel number on a screen. In the station selector, while channels are being switched through a remote control unit or the like, an OSD IC circuit is not operated and a selected station screen is displayed each time on a television set connected to an RF output terminal. Then, when the channel switching is completed and a synchronizing signal is output from a Y/C/A IC circuit, the actually selected station screen is displayed, then the OSD IC circuit is operated for displaying the channel number on the screen. When no synchronizing signal is output from the Y/C/A IC circuit, the OSD IC circuit is operated for displaying the channel number on a blue back.

A tuner unit includes a unit board. The unit board is formed, at its lower end, with a protrusion to have a terminal pattern formed on the protrusion. A frame chassis has a side plate having, at its lower end, a protrusion having a tapered side face in one of side faces. When the protrusion of the unit board is inserted in a hole of a main board, the tapered side face is inserted while abutted against an inner edge of a hole of the main board. This urges the protrusion in a direction that the terminal pattern is brought close to the connection pattern of the main board.

A part holder includes a part holding portion. In this part holding portion, a leadless part is held by a part receiving portion and an engaging piece. In such a state, the leadless part is inserted in a hole formed in a printed circuit board. At this time, a resilient piece provided on a leg of the part holder comes into abutment against an inner edge of the hole, whereby the part holder is fixed by the hole. Also, the part inserted in the hole is urged onto one surface of the hole by a resilient portion of the part holder. Thus, a pattern formed on one main surface of the part is closely contacted with a pattern formed on a backside of the printed circuit board.
