A battery containment apparatus for electronic flash contains a plurality of batteries, which are grouped into a plurality of battery banks, each including a substantially equal number of batteries. Each bank defines a d.c. source. The apparatus improves the portable use and the ease of operation of an electronic flash while assuring an efficient utilization of the battery capacity when it is used with an electronic flash which requires a plurality of d.c. sources, for example, an electronic flash including a plurality of DC-DC converters which must be energized by a plurality of d.c. sources.

An electronic flash apparatus has a plurality of flashlight projectors comprising flash discharge tubes and reflecting shades for said discharge tubes which projectors are juxtaposed with an opening of each reflecting shade substantially in the same direction, being the depth of said reflecting shades in the projectors constructed so as to be able to establish the substantially same amount of the flashlight emission as with the conventional electronic flash apparatus can be greatly reduced as compared therewith, thereby minimizing the size of the apparatus. In addition, the apparatus is further minimized by disposing a main capacitor for the flashlight emission of the flash discharge tube so as to project into a recess formed between adjacent ones of the plurality of reflecting shades.

An electronic flash assembly including a plurality of flash units for illuminating an object, one of which determines reflected light from the object being photographed and also produces a flashlight interrupting, control signal when a proper amount of illumination has been given. The control signal is supplied to all the flash units through an external control terminal, to interrupt the emission of flashlight from the plurality of flash units.

An adaptor for an auto strobo unit comprises a trigger signal feed circuit for supplying a trigger signal to a flashlight trigger circuit of said auto strobo unit in response to the closure of a synchro contact of an automatic exposure controlled camera, a polarity inverter for inverting the polarity of an illumination interrupt signal supplied by a photometric control circuit of the camera to a polarity which is suitable to activate an illumination interrupt circuit of the auto strobo unit, an amplifier for amplifying an illumination interrupt signal to a given level, and circuit means for feeding the polarity inverter or the amplifier when the trigger signal feed circuit is operated. The adaptor enables an automatic exposure controlled camera to be combined with any kind of an auto strobo unit.

Disclosed is an adapter for electronic flash unit which is connected to a synchro contact and a light adjustment signal output contact of a still camera having an electronically-controlled shutter mechanism. The adapter converts a light adjustment signal supplied from the camera through the light adjustment signal contact thereof into a signal with a polarity and level suitable for the operation of a light adjustment control circuit in an electronic flash unit.

A data display for use in a strobo unit which includes a manual controlling device for manually controlling the illumination, an automatic controlling device for controlling the illumination by means of a light receiving element which serves as means for determining an external light, and a TTL controlling device for controlling the illumination by means of a second light receiving element disposed within the camera for determining reflected light from a shutter blade or a film surface. The data display comprises a first stationary display panel carrying a diaphragm aperture dial and a guide number dial for use in a manual control mode, a diaphragm aperture dial and a range dial for use in an automatic control mode, and a plurality of indicia for selection of the manual, automatic and TTL controlling devices, all disposed in interrelated and concentric relationship. The data display also comprises a second stationary display panel disposed in concentric relationship with the first stationary display panel and carrying a dial thereon which indicates the distance to which a photographing operation is possible during the TTL control mode. Additionally, the data display also comprises a first mask plate which is disposed in concentric relationship with the first stationary display panel and rotatable relative thereto, a second mask plate which is rotatable relative to the first mask plate, but rotates integrally with the latter as it rotates, and a third mask plate which is disposed for integral rotation with the first mask plate.
