The present invention aims to cool high tension electrical equipment efficiently with a small, lightweight device. The high tension electrical equipment cooling structure is provided for cooling batteries which supply electricity to the operating motor via an inverter, and the inverter using cooling air, and comprises an equipment box for guiding cooling air introduced from a cooling air inlet port into a cooling air outlet port, and a fan for introducing cooling air from the cooling air inlet port. A shutter that consists of an elastic material is disposed inside the intake duct. The shutter closes off the cooling air flow path, and when negative pressure is generated downstream of the shutter due to the operation of the fan, the shutter undergoes elastic deformation, and as a result, the cooling air flow path is opened.

A cell module structure comprises a bus bar plate and plural cylindrical cells. A charging element device comprises a positive electrode terminal and a negative electrode terminal which are located at one end of a cylindrical battery case having a positive electrode and a negative electrode equipped therein and which are respectively connected to the positive electrode and the negative electrode, with an electrolyte solution charging opening being formed at the other end of the battery case. The electrolyte solution charging opening is sealed by a plug having a safety valve, and the safety plug reduces an inner pressure of the battery case when the inner pressure is not less than a predetermined pressure.

An air inlet is provided at the bottom of a vehicle to open downwardly. The air inlet is connected by a first tube to an air cooler for a PDU and a down converter. A fan for inputting the flow of air and turning its direction 90 degrees is connected at the downstream of the air cooler. The fan is further connected by a second tube to an exhaust outlet. The air inlet is located above a fuel tank thus to prevent any object jumping up from the road surface from straightforwardly entering the air inlet while the vehicle is running. The exhaust outlet is located above a silencer and can thus be prevented from being frozen in the winter. Using the above arrangement, the present invention embodies an air intaking and exhausting apparatus in an air cooling system for air cooling the PDU and the down converter at higher efficiency without the help of the air cooler mounted in the interior of the vehicle.

A plurality of reinforcing ribs 8 and 9 are formed on an end wall of a battery container 2 of a battery B, and a pair of notches 11 are defined in the reinforcing rib 9 at an upper end. A battery suspending jig J has a pair of hooks 14 formed on a base plate 12 formed of a metal plate material. An attaching/detaching portion 14.sub.1 of the hook 14 is passed through an attaching/detaching bore 11.sub.1 of the notch 11 and then moved upwards, whereby an engage portion 14.sub.2 of the hook 14 is brought into engagement into an engage bore 11.sub.2 of the notch 11, and a receiving portion 14.sub.3 of the hook 14 is urged against a lower surface of the reinforcing rib 9. Thus, the battery B can be suspended and moved by connecting the battery suspending jig J to a chain block or a winch through a wire.

A battery temperature regulating apparatus efficiently controls the charging temperature of a battery assembly which serves as a power source to energize a propulsive motor on an electric vehicle to run on a road. A fluid jacket is disposed in heat exchange relationship with the battery assembly and supplied with a coolant to regulate the temperature of the battery assembly with a radiator or an electric heater for allowing the battery assembly to be charged in a temperature range from 20.degree. C. to 35.degree. C., for example, which is optimum for the charging of the battery assembly. The battery temperature regulating apparatus can maintain the optimum temperature range more reliably than a conventional apparatus which regulates the temperature of the battery assembly as it is charged with a forced flow of hot air or cool air, and can reduce the electric energy consumption to 1/3 of that of the conventional apparatus.

A battery discharge gas control system, which releases a hydrogen gas generated from the battery assembly when the battery assembly is charged and discharged, is capable of keeping the battery structure highly resistant to water or humidity. The battery discharge gas control system has a battery having a gas release port, a passage connected to the gas release port, a control valve connected to the passage, a pressure sensor for detecting a pressure in the passage, and a control circuit for opening the control valve to release a gas generated by the battery from the passage, depending on the pressure in the passage as detected by the pressure sensor. During a period of time in which no hydrogen gas is generated or a generated hydrogen gas is not plenty enough to be released while the battery is being charged or discharged, the passage is closed for thereby keeping the battery structure highly resistant to water or humidity. The control valve has a solenoid-operated valve openable in response to a control signal outputted by the control circuit, and a relief valve mechanically openable depending on the pressure in the passage. Even in the event of a failure of the solenoid-operated valve, the relief valve is mechanically opened depending on the pressure in the passage, thereby protecting the passage from damage.
