A near infrared analyzer has, arranged on a base, a halogen tungsten lamp as light source, an optical stop for light from the source, an optical system for converging a flux of light for measuring and directing it to a measuring section and a system including an integrating sphere at which a sample is set. A spectrometer part has its entrance slit placed on the bottom surface of the integrating sphere, and includes a diffraction grating for diffraction and dispersion of incident light flux from the entrance slit, an arrayed detector and a reflective mirror for reflecting the diffracted light from the diffraction grating so as to be dispersed and focused on the surface of the detector. Signals from the detector can be sequentially retrieved for electronically scanning wavelengths without mechanically oscillating or rotating the grating. This makes it possible to maintain high accuracy in wavelengths over a long period of time. As the speed of measurement is increased, measurements can be repeated and obtained data integrated for reducing noise and improving accuracy of measurement.

An apparatus for measuring color transmissivities of a color separation prism P includes (where the color separation prism P receives a measurement light S on an incident path and emits three color lights Sr, Sg and Sb on three exit paths of different directions): a photomultiplier 21 and an integrating sphere I for measuring an intensity of light entering the integrating sphere I on an entrance path, where the entrance path is set detached from an extension of the incident path; a first movable mirror 9 located in one of four paths including an extension of the incident path and the three exit paths for reflecting the light on each path to the second movable mirror 10; and a second movable mirror 10 placed on the entrance path of the integrating sphere I (with the photomultiplier 21) and oriented in one of four directions for reflecting the light from the first movable mirror 9 to the integrating sphere I. Because the 100%-transmission light and the three color lights transmitted through the color separation prism P undergo the same optical history, absolute transmissivities of the color lights can be measured, and the two-beam method can be used since the integrating sphere I is fixed.

A spectro photometer deflects a measuring beam off its original axis to pass through a long sample, and returns the measuring beam to its final direction after passing through the sample. The sample is guided along a path which is clear of a reference beam of the spectro photometer. This arrangement permits double-beam measurement of long samples, with good signal-to-noise ratio. Deflection is accomplished using a plurality of mirrors.

A spectrophotometer including: a) a light source switching mechanism for switching a plurality of light sources by swinging a light source mirror; b) a filter selecting mechanism; c) a diffraction grating rotating mechanism; and d) a controller for determining the operation origins of the three driving mechanisms using a rough origin sensor provided for the diffraction grating rotating mechanism and a photometer. The operation of the controller is to: i) determine an origin of the movement of the filter by making an end of the filter frame to touch a stopper; ii) determine a rough origin of the diffraction grating using the rough origin sensor; and iii) determine an origin of the movement of the light source mirror and a precise origin of the movement of the diffraction grating by detecting the position at which the photometer detects the maximum intensity of light.

Spectrophotometer

A spectrophotometer includes a frame made of Glass Fiber Reinforced Unsaturated Polyester, a light source portion, a monochromator portion and a detector. The frame is fabricated with features such as bosses, holes, grooves, steps and detents, so that the frame makes it easy to install necessary parts at the precise position.

A wavelength driving device for use in monochromators which comprises an optical element for dispersing light into different wavelengths, means for supporting the optical element for rotation about a first axis, a stepping motor, a first toothed pulley of a relatively small diameter connected to the output shaft of the stepping motor for simultaneous stepwise rotation therewith, a first gear of a relatively large diameter fixed to the supporting means for simultaneous rotation about the first axis, a second gear of a relatively small diameter mounted for rotation about a second axis and meshing with the first gear, a second toothed pulley of a relatively large diameter fixed to the second gear for simultaneous rotation about the second axis, a toothed belt connecting the first and second toothed pulleys, and circuit means for controlling the rotation of the stepping motor.
