A system includes an image analyzer to analyze an image to be printed by a printer and to obtain an image parameter of the image, and a database to store a plurality of print-mode configurations for the printer. Each print-mode configuration has associated therewith a measure that represents a suitability of the print-mode configuration to print an image having a certain image parameter on a certain print medium. The database receives a query, and the query indicates the image parameter and a print medium. The database selects, responsive to the query and to the measure, a print-mode configuration for the printer, and outputs the selected print-mode configuration. The system modifies the measure associated with the selected print-mode configuration in response to a feedback about the printed image.

In examples a printing system comprises a controller and a printing device. The controller is to divide a print job into a sequence of areas, wherein an image property varies between adjacent areas. The controller is to determine a pausing point to be within a runout area at which a remaining amount of a consumable will be at or below a predetermined first amount when executing the print job when the runout area fulfills a condition. The controller is to determine the pausing point to be within a preceding area that fulfills the condition when the runout area does not fulfill the condition. The controller is to control the printing device to pause printing of the print job at the pausing point.

Certain examples described herein relate to printing systems and methods of operating the same. In an example of a printing system, a porosity determiner determines a porosity of a print medium and a signal generator generates a signal relating to a state of a printing fluid collector based on the porosity determined. In an example of a method of operating a printing system, a pressure measurement is obtained from a vacuum system of the printing system when a print medium is present on a media path of the printing system. This is compared to at least one predefined pressure range and, based on the comparison, an indication is provided setting out a state of a printing fluid collector.

In one example, a vapor control heater for a printer includes a housing, a heating element at least partially enclosed by the housing, and a fan to move air over the heating element and into a flow of air from the printer dryer.

An example method for determining an amount of a translucent printing fluid in accordance with the present disclosure is provided. The example method comprises printing a plurality of test patterns with different proportions of colored and translucent printing fluids. The plurality of test patterns comprise a first area and a second area contiguous with the first area, wherein a color of the second area is different from a color of the first area. Migration characteristics of the plurality of test patterns are analyzed to determine an amount of translucent printing fluid to use for a successive printing operation.

A method is described in which a first color is detected at a user-selected arbitrary position of a first print; a second color is detected at a user-selected arbitrary position of a second print printed by a printer; a color difference between the first color and the second color is determined; and settings of the printer are changed to reduce the color difference in further prints printed by the printer.

Color correction in printing systems

A drying assembly is disclosed. An example apparatus includes fans; a temperature sensor; a print engine to access instructions to cause a printer to perform a printing operation on media; and a processor responsive to an output of the temperature sensor to control the fans to force air onto the media to cause a substantially uniform temperature to be maintained across a width of the media during the printing operation and to cause a sum of air flow output by the fans to be maintained at a substantially constant value.

A method includes identifying at least one of a type of a respective media to be printed on in the print zone and respective densities of portions of the image by an identification module. The method also includes independently adjusting a respective target curing temperature of each one of a plurality of heating modules disposed across the media transport path in a first direction to form the heating zone based on the at least one of the type of the respective media and the respective densities of the portions of the image identified by the identification module by a temperature adjustment module.

Selectively heating a heating zone of a printing system

A drive signal may be determined to drive a printhead to a series of target temperatures during respective portions of a print pass by the printhead. Each of the target temperatures may be the greater of a temperature of the printhead caused by printing a quantity of printing fluid to be printed during the respective portion and a predetermined threshold temperature. A drive signal may be provided to warm the printhead to the series of target temperatures during the respective portions of the print pass.

In an embodiment, a method of maintaining nozzles in a print-ready condition includes determining image content to be printed in an upcoming print swath, and for each ink color present within the image content, constructing an inked portion of an associated spit bar adjacent to the upcoming print swath to include the present ink color. For each ink color not present within the image content, an empty portion of an associated spit bar is constructed adjacent to the upcoming print swath.

A detector device is disclosed for detecting an edge of a medium in a media processing system, the detector device comprising a spectrophotometer and a processing unit, the spectrophotometer scanning a medium in a media processing area and generating an output tuple, the processing unit comparing the output tuple to at least one reference tuple for detecting an edge of a medium. A printing device () and method for controlling the curing of ink are described. An example printing apparatus has a printing module () with at least one printhead for printing a swath of a printed image and a print controller () arranged to generate image and print control data for a plurality of swaths. A curing module () is arranged to receive, for each of the plurality of one or more swaths, image and print control data and to control, before a printed region of the print medium () corresponding to a particular one or more swaths arrives, one or more operating parameters of the curing module () based on data values within said image data and printing parameters within said print control data.

Method and apparatus for controlling ink curing

A method to control a printer carriage in which the printer carriage is controlled to move along a first axis at a first predetermined speed when a printhead, installed on the printer carriage, is ejecting printing fluid in a print zone. The printer carriage is moveable bidirectionally along the first axis in swaths to enable the printhead to print in the print zone. The printer carriage is also controlled to move along the first axis at a second predetermined speed, higher than the first predetermined speed, when the printhead is not ejecting printing fluid in the print zone.

To control a printer carriage

A measured distance is received from a distance sensor, where the measured distance is indicative of a distance between a color sensor and a substrate. Using the measured distance, a location of a given projection of projections of a substrate support is determined. A color of a color patch on the substrate at the determined location of the given projection is determined.
