Magnetic resonance imaging apparatus

A Magnetic Resonance imaging apparatus having a cavity in which a body or a part of a body to be imaged can be housed and a patient support device, which includes a patient supporting surface having a size so as to accommodate at least a part, particularly the whole of the patient body. The patient supporting surface is mounted in a slidable way relative to the cavity for housing the body to be imaged or a part thereof and enters together with the patient into the cavity. The patient support device includes one or more receptacles for respectively housing and/or removably coupling a coil adapted to receive signals from anatomic regions, upon excitation thereof by the Magnetic Resonance imaging apparatus. Each of the one or more receptacles are arranged over the surface of the device in areas corresponding to the position of one or more anatomic regions to be imaged.

A combination Magnetic Resonance imaging apparatus and patient table, which apparatus has a magnet structure, defining a cavity for accommodating a part of the body under examination, which is supported by a base block, the patient table and the apparatus having a base block and a supporting structure respectively, that are slidable in at least one, or more directions. The patient table and the Magnetic Resonance imaging apparatus have a mechanism for removable connection therebetween and guide thereof along predetermined relative displacement paths.

The invention relates to a patient support device, for use with Magnetic Resonance imaging apparatuses, comprising a support surface () adapted to accommodate at least a part, particularly the whole of the patient body. According to the invention, this device comprises at least one, receptacles () for holding and/or removably coupling a coil (') adapted to receive signals from an anatomic region particularly from the spinal region, which receptacle () is arranged over the surface () of the patient support device in areas corresponding to the position of the anatomic region to be imaged. The invention also relates to a Magnetic Resonance imaging apparatus comprising a magnet structure () which delimits a cavity to receive at least a part of the patient body, in which an imaging volume is created. In accordance with the invention, the apparatus comprises a patient support device as defined in the invention and as described above. The invention further relates to a Magnetic Resonance imaging method providing the use of the apparatus and the patient support device according to the invention.

A patient table is used in combination with a biomedical apparatus such as a magnetic resonance imaging machine. The table includes a supporting surface sized to accommodate at least a part of the patient's body. At least one recess is formed in one or more areas of the supporting surface, these recesses being open at the peripheral edge of the supporting surface. The table is formed of first and second parts that can be angled relative to one another. The table can be swung horizontally to relative positions relative to the machine and locked in selected ones of the positions.
