A gas turbine engine component has an axial seal pin assembly for sealing between adjacent platform regions where the seal pin assembly design provides a seal pin damper slot extending to a forward axial stop in a forward buttress region. The forward axial stop includes a relief slot to interrupt the loadpath from the airfoil into the blade neck and attachment regions to reduce the stress concentrations in these regions.

Axial retention of a platform seal

A method and device are provided to accurately align a machine component of generally circular cross-section within a surrounding machine casing that includes bottom and top halves of the casing. The bottom half and top half, in use, are bolted together at a split line occupying a horizontal plane. The component and the bottom half of the casing include complementary interdigitating members at three circumferentially spaced-apart locations, which include first and second locations at the split line on respective first and second horizontally opposed sides of the component, and a third location at bottom dead center. After lowering the component into the bottom half to engage the interdigitating members at the three locations, jacking apparatus is operated independently at each location to incrementally reposition the component within the bottom half. Shims are then inserted between the interdigitating members at the three locations to maintain the jacked position of the component.

Alignment of machine components within casings

A hot gas duct, such as a combustion casing in a gas turbine engine, includes a duct splitter held within the hot gas duct in at least three, preferably four, locations spaced around a peripheral edge of the duct splitter. At least one, preferably two, of the holding locations each comprise a generally cylindrical mounting that projects through a wall of the hot gas duct to engage an edge portion of the duct splitter by means of a slot formed in a circular face of the mounting. Mutually contacting surfaces of the slot and the duct splitter comprise hard face coatings to combat wear due to vibration and differential thermal expansion and contraction. The mountings have cooling holes that penetrate the mounting, so that coolant can flow through the mountings and into the interior of the hot gas duct to cool the mountings and the hard face coatings.
