A method for communication includes accepting in an Access Point (AP) data items for transmission over a wireless channel to multiple terminals served by the AP. Aggregate airtimes, which were previously allocated to the respective terminals on the wireless channel, are assessed. Transmission of the data items is scheduled depending on the aggregate airtimes.

System and method for enhancing performance of a wireless communication system, including communicating between an access point and at least one close client over a first RF channel, and communicating between an access point and at least one remote client via a repeater. The communication between the access point and the at least one remote client via the repeater includes communicating between an access point and the repeater over the first RF channel and communicating between the repeater and the at least one remote client over a second RF channel. The communication between the access point and the at least one close client over the first RF channel is substantially contemporaneous with the communication between the repeater and the at least one remote client over the second RF channel.

System and method for backoff correction of channel quality information (CQI). A correction factor is calculated based on a goodness measure such as packet error rate (PER). The selection of modulation and coding scheme (MCS) is made considering the channel quality information (CQI) adjusted by the correction factor. A meaningful goodness measure can be imposed if the goodness measure is very low. A different correction factor can be calculated for different confidence levels, MCSs and transmission modes.

A method for communication includes communicating between a first transceiver and a wireless communication terminal on a first channel, while identifying the first transceiver to the terminal with a transceiver identity. A roaming condition, which determines whether the terminal is to roam to a second transceiver operating on a second channel, is evaluated. Upon meeting the roaming condition, the terminal is instructed to switch to the second channel, and the terminal is subsequently communicated with using the second transceiver on the second channel while identifying the second transceiver to the terminal with the same transceiver identity as the first transceiver.
