A circularly polarized reflect array antenna having a plurality of antenna elements, where each antenna element has an electrically conductive patch, at least two electrically conductive stubs positioned along the periphery of the patch, and at least two switches each operable to connect or disconnect the patch to one of the at least two stubs.

Microstrip phase shifting reflect array antenna

A dual frequency antenna is mounted into a ground plane with an opening having a first predetermined length and width and under which a container having a second length, width and also depth is mounted. The dimensions of the opening and container are selected according to the operating characteristics of the antenna. The container includes four sides and a bottom plate. A first microstrip element is mounted in the container in alignment with the ground plane in the opening and it has a length and width less than the first predetermined length and width. The second length and width of the microstrip element is selected to optimumly perform at a first operating frequency. A second microstrip element is mounted in the container and is separated from the bottom plate by a preselected difference and separated from the first plate by a second preselected distance and its operating frequency is selected to be less than the first operating frequency. A plurality of feed probes having an appropriate phase arrangement are connected to the first microstrip element. A power divider network is operatively connected to the feed probes and either conducts to or receives power from the feed probes.

Microstrip antenna

An efficient monopulse direction finding technique is based on the best algorithm in the least squares sense for a given antenna configuration. The algorithm simultaneously uses complex voltage data from all of the antenna ports, i.e., all of the available data received. No a priori emitter polarization information is assumed. Only a two dimensional search for the performance index minimum is needed to find the solution. The method is extended to N emitters with a search in only 2N space for the N emitter angles.

Direction finding apparatus

A device and method of making the device for regulating electromagnetic radiations in a predetermined frequency range, which comprises a substrate and a coating mixture on a surface of the substrate. The coating mixture is provided by mixing together: (a) a plurality of flakes of a magnetic or ferrite material having substantial length and width dimensions relative to their thickness, the thickness of substantially all of the flakes being less than the skin depth of all frequencies in the predetermined frequency range, (b) at least one surfactant, (c)) a vaporizable electrically insulating material and (d) a solvent. The mixture is sprayed onto the surface of the substrate, either with or without a magnetic field at the surface, and the solvent is removed to retain the flakes on the substrate spaced from each other by the electrically insulating material and disposed substantially parallel to the portion of the plane of the surface thereunder. The substrate can be any one of at least an automobile, an aircraft, an electronic enclosure, a portion of a building, a tower causing electromagnetic interference or a location for placement of an antenna. The device is preferably an absorber for electromagnetic radiations, particularly for use on the surfaces of a mobile device such as an automobile, aircraft or personal electronic device. The flakes are any magnetic or ferrite material than can be provided in flake form in the thickness range required.

Compact multi-polarized broadband antenna

A GaAs monolithic waveguide switch and system for low power consumption and high frequency switching wherein a single GaAs chip is flip-chip mounted onto a waveguide slot and inserted between interconnecting waveguides to provide single pole single throw switching. The GaAs chip includes an array of MESFETs along with connecting electrodes configured to provide low loss in the biased state and high loss in the unbiased state. The use of a single GaAs monolithic chip provides improved RF performance and manufacturability over discrete devices and provides lower power consumption as compared with silicon PIN diode waveguide switches.

A bifocal pillbox antenna system is disclosed comprising a controller means providing control voltages and sequential switching signals to scan circuits. The scan circuits provide RF energy selectively to feed elements of a contoured feed array for radiation in a waveguide means. The waveguide means includes a waveguide and a pair of reflectors specially shaped to provide a pair of spaced focal points. The energy radiating from the feed elements with a non-linear phase distribution is guided to the specially shaped reflectors and reflected with a nearly linear phase distribution for transmission.
