The present disclosure provides an apparatus and method for multi-level encoding of an input message sequence into a symbol sequence, for instance, based on polar coding. The input message comprises information bits. The apparatus is configured to divide the input message into a plurality of sub-messages, encode each of the sub-messages into a codeword, wherein a set of the sub-messages is encoded on the basis of the codewords obtained by encoding the sub-messages not in the set and a predefined function of the symbol sequence, and map the encoded sub-messages into corresponding symbols.

Apparatus for multi-level encoding

Example transmission methods and apparatus are described. In one example method, a transmitter is configured to communicate with a receiver via a communication channel. The transmitter is configured to precode a data word into a precoded data word using a probabilistic shaping scheme, wherein the probabilistic shaping scheme depends on one or more precoding parameters. The precoded data word is encoded into a codeword using a modulation and/or coding scheme, wherein the modulation and/or coding scheme depends on one or more modulation and coding parameters. At least one precoding parameter is determined on the basis of at least one of the one or more modulation and coding parameters and/or on the basis of at least one further precoding parameter.

Transmitter and a transmission method using a PSCM scheme

Protograph-based LDPC codes are obtained from z-row-orthogonal base matrices with some additional structure constraints, such as a diagonal and/or double-diagonal structure, in order to allow a high parallelization that is a multiple of z, while having an efficient encoding or decoding. A 'big' base matrix is constructed from a structured square submatrix in order to have a WiMAX-like structure and a z-row-orthogonality. Also, starting from a 'smaller' base matrix having a part arranged in a double-diagonal shape with tail-biting one, an expansion by a factor equal to z can be performed, followed by an addition of a single one-entry into the last column at a specific location, thereby obtaining a three-degree column, and followed by a row and/or column permutation in order to obtain a base matrix in a WiMAX-like structure.

Polar coding with dynamic frozen bits

A signal transmitter and a signal receiver for interpreting a received message are provided. The receiver is configured to perform the steps of: decoding a first part of the message using a channel decoding scheme with a predefined set of decoding parameters to form a first data block; and subsequently decoding a second part of the message using the channel decoding scheme with decoding parameters that are at least partially dependent on the content of the first data block.
