A control system for controlling a powertrain of an electric vehicle is disclosed. The powertrain comprises a traction motor and a battery for powering the traction motor. The control system is configured to detect a low state of charge of the battery and to operate the powertrain in a low state of charge mode when the low state of charge is detected. In the low state of charge mode, the control system adjusts at least one parameter of the powertrain, such as traction motor torque, powertrain cooling, accessory cooling and accessory power consumption, to reduce power drawn from the battery.

Methods and systems of estimating an end of life of a rechargeable energy storage device in an energy storage system is disclosed. The system includes at least a motor, the energy storage device associated with the motor, a processing unit associated with the energy storage device, and at least one sensor operatively coupled with the processing unit and the energy storage device. The method includes measuring a most recent state of health (SOH) of the energy storage device after the system is started, storing the most recent SOH with at least one previously measured SOH, calculating a new replace-by date of the energy storage device based on the most recent SOH and the at least one previously measured SOH, and replacing a previously calculated old replace-by date with the new replace-by date, the new replace-by date being the same as or shorter than the old replace-by date.

Method and system for estimating an end of life of a rechargeable energy storage device

A spark ignited internal combustion engine is controlled in response to a self-learned TOB reference. The self-learned TOB reference is based on a difference between a learned TOB offset and a desired or target TOB, and a sensed TOB. The learned TOB offset at a given operating condition, such as charge pressure, can be found by interpolating between the learned charge pressure breakpoints in a TOB learning algorithm. The TOB learning algorithm can include using a filtered charge pressure value to indicate the engine load at which the TOB is learned. An index determination is made with a look up table with charge pressure as an input and an array index of learned charge pressure and learned TOB offset as outputs.

Self-learning torque over boost combustion control

A system for harmonizing knock in a plurality of cylinders included in an engine, the system comprises a plurality of knock sensors, and a controller coupled to each of the plurality of knock sensors. The controller is configured to receive a plurality of cylinder knock values corresponding to each of the plurality of knock sensors, and receive an average knock value. The controller determines a cylinder spark timing offset value for each cylinder in the plurality of cylinders from the average knock value and the cylinder knock values. The controller determines an average spark timing offset value. The controller also determines an adjusted spark timing value for each of the plurality of cylinders by subtracting the average spark timing offset value from a spark timing value of each of the plurality of cylinders.
