A method for performing simulation of a field having a subterranean formation, including: obtaining a three-dimensional (3D) porous solid image of a core sample, the core sample representing a portion of the field; generating a digital rock model from the solid image, the digital rock model describing a physical pore structure in the core sample; obtaining phase behavior data of fluids of the field; generating a digital fluid model of the fluids based on the phase behavior data, the digital fluid model describing a physical property of the fluid; performing, on a computer system and based on the digital rock model and the digital fluid model, simulations of the field by varying an input parameter for the simulations; and analyzing an output parameter generated by the simulations to determine an effect of varying the input parameter on the output parameter.

A method of managing a fluid or gas reservoir is disclosed which assimilates diverse data having different acquisition time scales and spatial scales of coverage for iteratively producing a reservoir development plan that is used for optimizing an overall performance of a reservoir. The method includes: (a) generating an initial reservoir characterization, (b) from the initial reservoir characterization, generating an initial reservoir development plan, (c) when the reservoir development plan is generated, incrementally advancing and generating a capital spending program, (d) when the capital spending program is generated, monitoring a performance of the reservoir by acquiring high rate monitor data from a first set of data measurements taken in the reservoir and using the high rate monitor data to perform well-regional and field-reservoir evaluations, (e) further monitoring the performance of the reservoir by acquiring low rate monitor data from a second set of data measurements taken in the reservoir, (f) assimilating together the high rate monitor data and the low rate monitor data, (g) from the high rate monitor data and the low rate monitor data, determining when it is necessary to update the initial reservoir development plan to produce a newly updated reservoir development plan, (h) when necessary, updating the initial reservoir development plan to produce the newly updated reservoir development plan, and (i) when the newly updated reservoir development plan is produced, repeating steps (c) through (h). A detailed disclosure is provided herein relating to the step (a) for generating the initial reservoir characterization and the step (b) for generating the initial reservoir development plan.

Integrated reservoir optimization

A Single Well Predictive Model (SWPM) software based computer system stores a Single Well Predictive Model (SWPM) software therein. When the SWPM software is executed, the SWPM computer system will: (1) automatically produce a first specific workflow comprised of a first plurality of software modules in response to a first set of user objectives and automatically execute the first specific workflow in response to a first set of input data to produce a first desired product, and (2) automatically produce a second specific workflow comprised of a second plurality of software modules in response to a second set of user objectives and automatically execute the second specific workflow in response to a second set of input data to produce a second desired product. There is no longer any need to separately and independently execute the first plurality of software modules of the first workflow in order to produce the first desired product, and there is no longer any need to separately and independently execute the second plurality of software modules of the second workflow in order to produce the second desired product. A considerable amount of time and labor is saved.

Computer-based method and system are disclosed for conduction a brownfield assessment. The system/method involves a workflow manager that standardizes the tasks needed to be performed during the brownfield assessment and streamlines the completion of these tasks. The workflow manager incorporates expert knowledge and best practices identified over time for previous brownfield assessments. The expert knowledge and best practices are then applied automatically through operation of the workflow manager. Such an arrangement can result in significantly reduced completion time as well as more consistent deliverables from engineer to engineer and project to project.

The invention relates to a method of performing a numerical model study to accurately forecast a production of a well in a reservoir. The method involves determining a property distribution of the reservoir using a three dimensional (3D) structure and property model for providing an estimate of a 3D structure, wherein the estimate of the 3D structure includes the property distribution, determining a grid system, including a grid and layering mechanism that is superimposed on said 3D structure and said property distribution associated with the digital 3D structure and property model, using a 3D simulator grid system, and determining a rock model using an initial 3D reservoir simulator in response to the estimate of the property distribution associated with the digital 3D structure and property model and the grid system associated with the 3D simulator grid system, wherein the rock model is used to accurately forecast the production of the well in the reservoir.

A method for performing an oilfield operation on a reservoir, including: obtaining a user objective identifying the oilfield operation; obtaining a set of input data; selecting a workflow in response to the user objective, where the workflow comprises a build model module and a tune model module; generating a 1D model of the reservoir using the build module, where the 1D model includes multiple per unit of depth properties; generating a 3D model of the reservoir by distributing the plurality of per unit of depth properties in 3D; calibrating the 3D model using the tune model module, modular dynamic tester transient test data, and a historical response of the reservoir; forecasting a response of the reservoir to the set of input data by applying the first set of input data to the 3D model; and using the response to perform the oilfield operation.

Method and system and program storage device for generating an SWPM-MDT workflow in response to a user objective and executing the workflow to produce a reservoir response model

A method is disclosed for modeling a reservoir, comprising: receiving a set of wettability logs from a wettability logging tool adapted to be disposed in a wellbore; generating a wettability map in response to the wettability logs; generating a gridded simulation model, the gridded simulation model including a plurality of grid cells; determining, for each grid cell of the gridded simulation model, a local value of wettability from the wettability map; determining, for each grid cell of the gridded simulation model, a permeability model and a capillary pressure model from the local value of wettability associated with each grid cell; and generating a set of simulation results representing characteristics of the reservoir.
