A process for deoiling wastes is disclosed. The process is integrated with a refinery and utilizes a refinery intermediary hydrocarbon stream as a solvent to recover waste oil for reprocessing in the refinery and to produce waste solids, which are either reused or disposed for landtreatment.

Rendering oily wastes landtreatable or usable

A noble metal-containing zeolitic catalyst having cracking activity and hydrogenation activity is pretreated by contacting the catalyst with a nitrogen-containing compound to decrease the cracking activity of the catalyst followed by treatment with hydrogen to recover the hydrogenation activity of the catalyst. The pretreated catalyst is used in a process for the hydrogenation of aromatic hydrocarbons.

Process for the hydrogenation of aromatic hydrocarbons

A hydrorefining process for heavy hydrocarbonaceous oils, such as gas oils, is initiated by contacting a sulfided hydrorefining catalyst, such as nickel-molybdenum on alumina, with a light hydrocarbonaceous oil boiling in the range of C.sub.5 to 700.degree. F., in the presence of hydrogen, at specified conditions and, thereafter, contacting the catalyst with the heavy hydrocarbonaceous oil to be hydrorefined.

Start-up method for a hydrorefining process

A heavy hydrocarbon oil comprising constituents boiling above 1050.degree. F. is upgraded by a combination visbreaking or hydrovisbreaking and hydrorefining process in which at least a portion of the hydrorefined bottoms fraction is recycled to the visbreaking zone. The hydrorefining zone is operated at conditions to convert at least a portion of the 1050.degree. F..sup.+ constituents to lower boiling hydrocarbons.
