Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide a surgical system comprising a fluid output device capable of connecting to a syringe comprising a material for delivery to a body part through a cannula connected to the syringe and a controller configured to adjust a pressure of the fluid output to enable a controlled delivery of the material within the syringe at a target flow rate.

Methods and systems for delivering material to a body part

Certain embodiments describe an endoilluminator comprising a probe housing an optical fiber. The probe comprises a distal end with an opening through which a first light from a distal end of the optical fiber is configured to be propagated. The probe comprises one or more side openings through which a second light from one or more sides of the optical fiber is configured to be propagated. The endoilluminator also comprises a handpiece coupled to a light source and the proximal end of the probe, wherein the light source is configured to drive light into the optical fiber.

Provided herein are vitrectomy instruments and related systems and methods in which example vitrectomy instruments have multiple rotating cutting edges for severing vitreous fibers. An example vitrectomy instrument may include a handle; an outer tube; and an inner tube configured to be rotated within the outer tube in multiple oscillating rotational cycles. The outer tube may include a port disposed at a distal end thereof. The inner tube may include at least first and second forward cutting edges, so that rotation in a first rotational direction results in both the first and second forward cutting edges cutting vitreous fibers drawn into the port. The inner tube may also include one or more backward cutting edges, so that rotation in a second rotational direction results in one or more backward cutting edges cutting vitreous fibers drawn into the port. Additional forward and/or backward cutting edges may be provided.

An ultrasonic cutting tip has a hollow shaft with a proximal and distal end. The proximal end is configured to be attached to an ultrasonic hand piece, and the distal end has a smooth continuous surface. An opening is located near the distal end of the hollow shaft. The opening is configured to cut vitreous when the cutting tip is vibrated ultrasonically in a torsional manner.

In a general aspect, a syringe terminates the dispensing of a fluid based on a force applied to a plunger member of the syringe. In some aspects, a plunger member of a syringe includes a top portion, a bottom portion, and a contact portion. The top and bottom portions are in contact with the contact portion, and the bottom portion has a length greater than or equal to a length of the top portion. The contact portion permits the top portion to move independent of the bottom portion in response to a stress in the contact portion exceeding a critical stress. The stress in the contact portion is based on a first force applied to the top portion and a second force opposite the first force applied to the bottom portion.
