Provided herein are surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-active reagents and methods for detecting one or more analyte in a sample. Said SERS-active reagents are adaptable, sensitive, and easy-to-use in the diagnosis of infectious diseases in a patient, or the detection of toxins, bacteria, viruses, pathogens, hormones, cytokines, antigens, antibodies or illicit drugs in a biological sample. Such methods may be handled by police, soldiers, or health care workers in the field, and do not require specialized training.

Reagents and methods for detecting infectious diseases

During a financial transaction, a functional representation of a financial history of a user is accessed. This functional representation specifies a financial output value based on input values and a behavioral pattern, and the behavioral pattern specifies a relationship between at least a pair of the variables associated with a dimension in the financial history. Then, the functional representation is modified based on a financial circumstance that is different than financial circumstances in the financial history. Moreover, the financial output value is calculated using the functional representation and the input values, and a modified financial output value is calculated using the modified functional representation and the input values. Next, the financial output value and the modified financial output value are compared. Based on the comparison and a testing metric, the electronic device determines a result of the counterfactual testing.

Counterfactual testing of finances using financial objects

A photoluminescent polymer/transition metal complex is disclosed which is capable of selectively binding to alkenes to thereby alter the photoluminescence of the complex. In one embodiment, a poly(vinyl phenyl ketone)/Ag(I) complex is disclosed which reversibly and selectively binds with ethylene. The disclosed photoluminescent polymer/transition metal complex can be used as part of a sensor to determine the presence and/or concentration of alkenes such as ethylene.

Photoluminescent ethylene sensors

The present invention is an audio special effect generator which simulates, almost in real time, the sound of an input audio signal being played in reverse. An input audio signal is digitized and read into memory locations in an SRAM which are sequentially addressed from zero until a predetermined address is reached at which point the data stored is read out to an output terminal in reverse order, i.e., the SRAM is addressed from the predetermined address back to zero. For each read, the data read out of the SRAM is replaced with new data from the input audio signal. When the address reaches zero again, the address begins to be incremented again as the data in each location continues to be read out to the output terminal while being replaced by data from the audio input signal. This operation continues until disabled, thus producing an audio output which is a series of audio signal packets which are copies of portions of the input audio signal reproduced in reverse.

Back-masking effect generator

The invention comprises a back-masking effect generator which produces, almost in real time, the simulated sound of an input audio signal being reproduced in reverse. The device digitally records the sound in packets of short duration with alternating packets being written to first and second static random access memory devices, respectively. After an initial state in which the first memory device is filled with the digitized input audio signal, the generator then continuously alternates between two other states. In one state, the second memory device is filled while the first memory device is simultaneously emptied to a digital-to-analog converter in the reverse order from which it was filled. In the other state, the first static random access memory is filled while the second memory device is simultaneously emptied to the digital-to-analog converter.
