In certain aspects, a coated steel substrate comprises a single or multiple-layer electroplated aluminum coating over a steel substrate. The multiple-layer electroplated aluminum coating comprises one or more porous layers and one or more compact layers. The one or more porous layers comprise a material selected from a group consisting of aluminum and aluminum alloys. The one or more compact layers comprise a material selected from a group consisting of aluminum and aluminum alloys. In certain aspects, a method of depositing a multiple-layer aluminum coating over a steel substrate includes electroplating one or more porous aluminum layers over the steel substrate. The one or more porous aluminum layers comprise a material selected from a group consisting of aluminum and aluminum alloys. One or more compact aluminum layers are electroplated over the steel substrate. The one or more compact aluminum layers comprise a material selected from a group consisting of aluminum and aluminum alloys.

Curable compositions are provided. In embodiments, a curable composition comprises curable prepolymers selected from the group consisting of epoxy prepolymers and silicone prepolymers, and a curing rate modifier that increases a rate of crosslinking reactions between the curable prepolymers as compared to a comparative curable composition without the curing rate modifier, wherein the curing rate modifier does not cure the curable composition in the absence of a hardener present in the curable composition, a catalyst present in the curable composition, water, or a combination thereof. Methods of using the curable compositions are also provided.

The present disclosure provides coupling systems for use in industrial systems to removably couple one or more components to the industrial system. The coupling systems discussed herein employ a flexible sleeve in addition to one or more components. The flexible sleeve can have a component disposed therein. When pressure is applied to the flexible sleeve, the flexible sleeve constricts around the component, securing the component in the coupling system and thus to the industrial system. Once the component is secured, the industrial system executes one or more processes on the component. The coupling systems discussed herein can accommodate components of varying internal and external geometries as well as internal and/or external coatings and surface finishes.

An apparatus for removing material from an object surface is disclosed, including a fluid source, a flexible carrier, and a tubular member. The tubular member is connected to the flexible carrier, which is configured to conform to the object surface. An electrolyte solution for electroplating can include an alkali metal citrate, an alkali metal acetate, a citric acid, and glycine with a metal salt. An electrolyte solution can be formed by dissolving an alkali metal citrate, an alkali metal acetate, a citric acid, and glycine in water or an aqueous solution. Electrodepositing zinc-iron alloys on a substrate can include introducing a cathode and an anode into an electrolyte solution comprising an alkali metal citrate, an alkali metal acetate, a citric acid, and glycine. Electrodepositing can further include passing a current between the cathode and the anode through the electrolyte solution to deposit zinc and iron onto the cathode.

Compositionally modulated zinc-iron multilayered coatings

A sensing instrument includes a first electrode, a second electrode that surrounds the first electrode, and a sensing module configured to sense a capacitance of a material by applying a voltage between the first electrode and the second electrode while the first electrode and the second electrode are adjacent to the material. A method of operating a sensing instrument includes applying a voltage between a first electrode and a second electrode while the first electrode and the second electrode are positioned adjacent to a material. The second electrode surrounds the first electrode. The method further includes sensing a capacitance of the material based on a response of the material to the voltage.

The present disclosure provides a cleaning system, including a first sub-chamber, a second sub-chamber adjacent to the first sub-chamber, and a third sub-chamber adjacent to the second sub-chamber. A first divider is positioned between the first and the second sub-chambers. A second divider is positioned between the second and the third sub-chambers. A vacuum system is coupled to the third sub-chamber to generate a vacuum pressure in the third sub-chamber that is less than a pressure of the first sub-chamber to create a pressure differential to induce a pressurized flow of a first cleaning media from the first sub-chamber to the third sub-chamber through an internal passage of a component positioned in the second sub-chamber. A filtering system is coupled to the first sub-chamber and the third sub-chamber to remove and filter the first cleaning media from the third sub-chamber and return the first cleaning media to the first sub-chamber.

The present disclosure provides alloys for coating a steel substrate, the alloys comprising aluminum and one or more of zinc, magnesium, and zirconium. The alloy coatings have a percent total pore volume of about 5% or less and an average pore diameter about 10 microns or less. A process for additive manufacture of an article comprises conveying a material through a heated nozzle to form a flowing mass of the material. The material comprises a polymer matrix including a plurality of polymeric chains and an alignment additive dispersible within the polymer matrix. The alignment additive is configured to align the plurality of polymeric chains in a flow direction of the flowing mass of the material. The process further comprises aligning at least a portion of the polymeric chains, via the alignment additive, along a direction of flow through the heated nozzle, releasing the flowing mass of the material from the heated nozzle, and allowing the material to solidify.

Processable polymer, method, and apparatus for additive manufacture

An additive manufacturing powder particle including a surface and at least one functional group formed on the surface, wherein the at least one functional group increases laser energy absorption of the additive manufacturing powder particle. The additive manufacturing particle is treated with plasma radiation to form hydroxyl functional groups on a surface of the additive manufacturing powder particle, where the hydroxyl functional groups have a molecular vibrational frequency corresponding to a laser wavenumber range of laser energy of an additive manufacturing process, and where the plasma radiation treating the additive manufacturing powder particles depends on the laser energy of the additive manufacturing process. Treating the additive manufacturing powder particle with the plasma radiation increases laser energy absorption of the additive manufacturing powder particle when the additive manufacturing particle is exposed to the laser energy, produced by a carbon dioxide laser, of the additive manufacturing process.

An electrolyte solution for electroplating can include a metal salt, boric acid, an alkali metal chloride, polyethylene glycol, and a hydroxy benzaldehyde. An electrolyte solution can be formed by dissolving a metal salt, boric acid, an alkali metal chloride, polyethylene glycol, and a hydroxy benzaldehyde in water or an aqueous solution. Electrodepositing zinc-manganese alloys on a substrate can include introducing a cathode and an anode into an electrolyte solution comprising a metal salt, boric acid, an alkali metal chloride, polyethylene glycol, and a hydroxy benzaldehyde. Electrodepositing can further include passing a current between the cathode and the anode through the electrolyte solution to deposit zinc and manganese onto the cathode.

Compositionally modulated zinc-manganese multilayered coatings

An electrolyte solution for iron-tungsten plating is prepared by dissolving in an aqueous medium a divalent iron salt (e.g., iron (II) sulfate) and an alkali metal citrate (e.g., sodium citrate, potassium citrate, or other alkali metal citrate) to form a first solution, dissolving in the first solution a tungstate salt (e.g., sodium tungstate, potassium tungstate, or other potassium tungstate) to form a second solution, and dissolving in the second solution a citric acid to form the electrolyte solution. An iron-tungsten coating is formed on a substrate using the electrolyte solution by passing a current between a cathode and an anode through the electrolyte solution to deposit iron and tungsten on the substrate.

A layered tetravalent metal phosphate composition (e.g., a layered zirconium phosphate composition) and a first corrosion inhibitor (e.g., cerium (III), a vanadate, a molybdate, a tungstate, a manganous, a manganate, a permanganate, an aluminate, a phosphonate, a thiazole, a triazole, and/or an imidazole) is dispersed in an aqueous solution and stirred to form a first solution. The first CIM is added to a first sol-gel composition to form a first CIM-containing sol-gel composition. The first CIM-containing sol-gel composition is applied on a substrate to form a CIM-containing sol-gel layer, cured by UV radiation, and thermally cured to form a corrosion-resistant coating. One or more additional sol-gel composition may be applied on the substrate.
