A method of operating a wireless communication device () configured to connect to a communications network () includes: monitoring for multiple downlink reference signals () transmitted by at least one access node of the communications network () using multiple downlink transmit beams (-), each one of the multiple downlink reference signals () being associated with a respective at least one of multiple random-access occasions (-); and accessing at least two random-access occasions () of the multiple random-access occasions (-), the at least two random-access occasions () being associated with at least two downlink reference signals () selected from the multiple downlink reference signals () based on said monitoring and establishing a multibeam operation between the wireless communication device () and the communications network (), wherein the multi-beam operation is established based on at least two downlink transmit beams () used for transmitting the selected at least two downlink reference signals ().

A method of operating a wireless communication device () configured to communicate with a communications network () using frequency duplex transmission in an uplink frequency band () and in a downlink frequency band () is provided. The method includes monitoring for first downlink reference signals () transmitted by an access node () of the communications network () in the uplink frequency band () and using multiple first downlink transmit beams (-); and monitoring for second downlink reference signals () transmitted by the access node () of the communications network () in the downlink frequency band () and using multiple second downlink transmit beams (-).

Beam management for frequency division duplex operation

A re-configurable repeater device—such as a large intelligent surface or an amplify-and-forward repeater—includes an array of reflective elements and a beam-shaping unit in front of the array. The beam-shaping unit is configured to increase a beam diameter of an incoming beam. For instance, the divergence of incoming electromagnetic waves can be increased. It would be possible that the beam-shaping unit is im-plemented as a lens, e.g., a Luneberger-type lens.

Re-configurable repeater device including beam-shaping unit

Examples relate to a method of operating a first communication node (CN). The first CN is configured for controlling a re-configurable relaying device (RRD), in particular a re-configurable reflective device, the RRD being reconfigurable to provide multiple contemporaneous spatial polarization filterings, each one of the multiple spatial polarization filterings being associated with a respective input spatial direction from which incident signals on a radio channel are accepted and with a respective output spatial direction into which the incident signals are transmitted, in particular reflected, by the RRD. The method comprising providing, to a second CN, a message indicative of the RRD being configurable to transmit an incident signal from a second CN using an output spatial direction to the first CN depending on a property of the incident signal. Further examples, relate to methods of operating the second CN and the RRD. Still further examples, relate to corresponding first CNs, second CNs and RRDs.

Polarization dependent operation of a re-configurable relaying device

According to a first aspect, examples provide a method of operating a first communication node (CN), wherein the first CN is configured for controlling a first CED, wherein the first CED is reconfigurable to provide multiple spatial filterings, each one of the multiple spatial filtering being associated with a respective input spatial direction from which incident signals on a radio channel are accepted and with a respective output spatial direction into which the incident signals are transmitted by the first CED. The method comprises receiving, from a second CN on the radio channel, a first reference signal via a first propagation path and a second propagation path, wherein receiving the first reference signal via the first propagation path involves receiving a component of the reference signal via the first CED, measuring a first reception property of the first reference signal, and providing, to the first CED, a message for configuring the first CED to induce a first phase shift in the first propagation path. The method comprises transmitting, to one or more receiver nodes of the communication system, a reference signal sequence using a first antenna port and a carrier frequency. The method comprises obtaining a first set of candidate beams from the wireless device for communication with the network node based on beam quality indicators. The number of candidate beams of the second set is larger than the number of beams to be used for communication with the wireless device. The present disclosure provides a method, performed by a wireless device, for capability signalling. The wireless device comprises one or more antenna panels configured to communicate with a network node. The method comprises obtaining a capability of at least one of the antenna panels, wherein the capability comprises at least one of: a receive-only panel, ROP, capability, a transmit-only panel, TOP, capability, a receive-and-transmit panel, RTP, capability and a dynamic RTP capability. The method comprises transmitting, to the network node, control signalling indicative of the obtained capability of the at least one antenna panel.

Repetitive transmissions and re-configurable reflective devices

A communication device () and a method for a communication device (), for providing a beam report () to an access node () of a wireless network, wherein the communication device is capable of communicating via at least two different device beams ().
