A centrifugal separator includes a frame and a drive member configured to rotate a rotating part in relation to the frame around an axis of rotation. The rotating part includes a centrifuge rotor closing a separation chamber. The separation chamber includes a stack of separation discs arranged coaxially around the axis of rotation at a distance from each other such as to form passages between each two adjacent separation discs. The stack of separation discs includes a first type of separation discs having an outer diameter of A or below, and at least one separation disc of a second type having outer diameter B or above, wherein diameter B is larger than diameter A. At least one of the separation discs of the second type is arranged at a position in the disc stack that is within the upper 15% of the total number of separation discs and at least one of the first type of separation disc is arranged axially above the uppermost separation disc of the second type.

A centrifuge rotor for a centrifugal separator for separation of a relatively heavy phase of a fluid from a relatively light phase of the fluid is disclosed. The centrifuge rotor includes a stack of conical disks, and has a central axis of rotation. Each conical disk has an outward surface and an inward surface. The stack of conical disks includes a plurality of interspaces between adjacent conical disks. The interspaces include first interspaces for separation of the relatively heavy phase from the relatively light phase, and second interspaces. A check valve device is provided in each second interspace for closing the second interspace in an inward direction towards the central axis, and permitting opening of the second interspace in an outward direction. A centrifugal separator and a method for separation of particles from a gas stream is disclosed. The separator includes a frame, a gas inlet and a gas outlet. A centrifugal rotor is arranged to be rotatable in the frame around a rotational axis and includes a plurality of separation plates defining separation passages between the plates. A central gas chamber in the rotor communicates with a radially inner portion of the separation passages and the gas outlet. A space surrounding the rotor communicates with a radially outer portion of the separation passages and the gas inlet. A device is configured to bring the gas stream in rotation upstream of the rotor. The centrifugal rotor is configured such that the rotational flow of the gas mixture drives the rotation of the centrifugal rotor for separating particles from the same gas stream being conducted from the space surrounding the rotor, through the separation passages between the plates and towards the central gas chamber.

Centrifugal separator having a vortex generator

A centrifugal separator for separation of liquid particles from a gas stream, includes a stationary frame, a gas inlet and a gas outlet. The frame comprises a tubular element defining a rotor space inside itself and a liquid transportation space outside the tubular element. A centrifugal rotor is arranged in the rotor space and rotatably supported in the frame around a rotational axis. At least one opening is provided in the tubular element, between the rotor space and the liquid transportation space, for conducting liquid separated from the gas stream from the rotor space to the liquid transportation space.

Centrifugal separator

A centrifugal separator for separation of particles from a gas stream is disclosed. The centrifugal separator includes a self-supporting frame for mounting inside an existing vessel for guiding the gas stream. The frame comprises a holder configured to hold the frame at a position inside the vessel, and a first partition for dividing the vessel into a first section and a second section. The first section is upstream of the second section. The separator includes a gas inlet communicating with the first section, and a gas outlet communicating with the second section. A centrifugal rotor is arranged to be rotatably supported in the frame around a rotational axis, the rotor having a first and a second end portion and including a plurality of separation plates defining separation passages between the plates. The centrifugal separator is configured such that the first and second sections communicate via the separation passages of the rotor.

A device for cleaning of polluted gas from a combustion engine, includes a centrifugal separator with a centrifuge rotor arranged to cause the polluted gas to rotate. The centrifuge rotor comprises a stack of truncated conical separating discs disposed at mutual spacing so they delimit intermediate spaces between them for the gas to flow through. An outlet chamber is disposed centrally within the stack of separating discs, whereby the centrifuge rotor is configured for counterflow separation. The centrifugal separator comprises a gas outlet which communicates with the outlet chamber. The stack of separating discs is disposed for rotation in a space formed within the combustion engine and arranged to receive the polluted gas, to which end the intermediate spaces between the separating discs communicate directly with the space, and the gas outlet is arranged to conduct the cleaned gas out from the space through a wall which delimits the space.

An internal combustion engine and centrifugal separator assembly separates contaminants from crankcase gas. A crankcase is connected to the centrifugal separator including a centrifugal rotor. A rotor housing delimits a separation space in which the centrifugal rotor is arranged to rotate. A gas inlet conducts crankcase gas to a central part of the centrifugal rotor. A gas outlet communicates with a part of the separation space surrounding the centrifugal rotor and to conduct cleaned crankcase gas out of the separation space. A particle outlet communicates with the part of the separation space. The particle outlet is connected to a collector for the separated particles. The collector is configured to communicate with the gas inlet via a connection to provide a pressure difference between the particle outlet and the collector. The separated particles are drawn out of the particle outlet and into the collector during operation of the centrifugal separator.

Separating device, an internal combustion engine and centrifugal separator assembly and a method of separating contaminants from crankcase gas

The present invention relates to a separator and more specifically, but not exclusively, to a centrifugal separator for the cleaning of a gaseous fluid. A centrifugal separator is provided as comprising a housing defining an inner space, and a rotor assembly for imparting a rotary motion onto a mixture of substances to be separated. The rotor assembly is located in said inner space and is rotatable about an axis relative to the housing. The rotor assembly comprises an inlet for receiving said mixture of substances, an outlet from which said substances are ejected from the rotor assembly during use, and a flow path for providing fluid communication between the inlet and outlet, wherein the outlet is positioned more radially outward from said axis than the inlet.

Gas cleaning separator

The invention relates to a centrifugal separator for cleaning of gas from solid or liquid particles suspended therein which are of greater density than the gas. A main object of the present invention is to accomplish a centrifugal separator which does not have said inactive regions and thereby achieves efficient separation of particulate contaminants from a gas. This object is achieved by the centrifugal separator initially defined, which is characterised in that the interspaces between the separation discs at least at their radially outer parts are substantially open for flow of the gas in the circumferential direction and that mutually adjacent separation discs are arranged at mutual spacing such that rotation of the rotor causes a pumping action in the interspaces, which pumping action drives the gas from the gas inlet, through the interspaces between the separation discs and out via the gas outlet.
