In certain embodiments, an input device includes a housing, a processor disposed in the housing, and an image sensor to track a movement of the input device with respect to an underlying surface. The image sensor includes a pixel array and operates in two modes of operation including a first mode of operation where the processor causes the image sensor to utilize a first plurality of pixels in the pixel array when tracking the movement of the input device or a second mode of operation where the processor causes the image sensor to utilize a second plurality of pixels in the pixel array when tracking the movement of the input device, where the second plurality of pixels has fewer pixels than the first plurality of pixels.

Eye fatigue from looking too long at a computer monitor can not only causes physical symptoms, it can also reduce productivity. Eye tracking is used to determine potential eye fatigue. After potential eye fatigue is determined, an eye fatigue mitigation action is triggered. Eye fatigue mitigation action can including providing a notification, blurring a screen, and blanking a screen. Eye tracking can also be used to verify that a user has taken an eye fatigue mitigation action, such as diverted looking from a screen for a sufficient amount of time. By implementing eye fatigue mitigation actions, symptoms can be reduced and/or productivity increased.

Techniques for eye fatigue mitigation

Aspects of the invention include an input device comprising a housing having a region, a haptic element coupled to the housing, the haptic element configured to generate a haptic feedback and couple the haptic feedback to the region of the housing, and a force-sensitive element coupled to the housing, the force-sensitive element configured to detect a threshold input force applied-to and removed-from the region of the housing, the force-sensitive element being different from the haptic element. The haptic element may generate a first haptic feedback in response to the force-sensitive element detecting the threshold force being applied to the region of the housing, and the haptic element may generate a second haptic feedback in response to the force-sensitive element detecting the threshold force being removed from to the region of the housing, the first haptic feedback being different than the second haptic feedback.

A method of calibrating a wearable electronic device including a location data unit and an inertial motion unit includes providing a calibration table including default calibration data for the wearable electronic device and determining if location data is available from the location data unit. The method also includes determining if the calibration table has been updated to achieve predetermined thresholds and receiving, from the location data unit, location data associated with the wearable electronic device as a function of time if the location data is available. A method of detecting fatigue of a user during an activity includes acquiring performance data for the user during the activity and computing metrics related to the performance data. The method also includes determining that the metrics exceed a predetermined threshold, generating an alert, and communicating the alert to the user.

A method includes receiving movement data (pitch movement data, yaw movement data, and roll movement data) from a first device corresponding to movement of an input device. The method also includes receiving acceleration data from a second device corresponding to an acceleration of the input device and detecting a motion of the input device from a reference position based on the movement data and the acceleration data. The motion is defined by a pitch movement from the reference position that exceeds a first predetermined movement threshold value, a yaw movement from the reference position that is below a second predetermined movement threshold value, and a roll movement from the reference position that is below a third predetermined movement threshold value. The pitch movement has an acceleration greater than a predetermined acceleration threshold value. The method further includes triggering a function on the input device in response to detecting the motion.

System and method for movement triggering a head-mounted electronic device while inclined

A method of calibrating a wearable electronic device includes providing an indication of a target speed for an activity to a user wearing the wearable electronic device and receiving location data from a location data unit during the activity. The method also includes receiving, concurrently with the location data, user stride data associated with the user during the activity and computing a speed of the user as a function of the location data as a function of time. The method further includes populating a table of the speed of the user as a function of the user stride data and calibrating the wearable electronic device in accordance with the table.

Input devices having a thin profile and good comfort and feel are disclosed. In embodiments, an input device includes a sensor layer configured to effectuate a key press upon application of an activation force, and a collapsible layer coupled to the sensor layer. The collapsible layer may be configured to collapse in response to a collapsing force that is substantially equal to the activation force. When the collapsible layer collapses, the sensor layer may simultaneously effectuate the key press in response to application of the collapsing force.

Solid state input device

Certain embodiments of the invention include an input device (e.g., a computer mouse) including a processor, a housing including a top side, the housing configured to support a user's hand, and a detachable cover plate configured to attach to the top side of the housing and support a user's hand. The cover plate can include a shape memory polymer (SMP) disposed thereon, where the SMP is pliable and operable to conform to the user's hand when a temperature of the SMP is at or above a threshold value. Furthermore, the SMP can be firm and non-conforming when the temperature of the SMP falls below the threshold value. A heating unit controlled by the processor can be configured to control the temperature of the shape memory polymer. The detachable cover plate can include the shape memory polymer disposed in areas configured to contact a user's palm and thumb.
