This invention concerns conductive materials based on an encapsulated conductive polymer. Encapsulation in a shell of polymer stabilizes the conductivity of these materials, which can be encapsulated in a shell of film-generating polymer, to give the material formed very good mechanical properties, unlike conductive polymers which existed in the prior art, which, if not encapsulated, form brittle materials that are less stable in time.

Conductive materials based on encapsulated conductive polymers

A material based on a conductive polymer consisting of particles of conductive polymer (P.sub.0), each particle being wrapped in a shell of water-insoluble, cross-linked polymer (P.sub.1).

The invention is a new process to produce polyparaphenylene vinylene or polyparathienylene vinylene polymers using a sulfonium-based polyelectric precursor. This precursor is treated directly with acid to obtain the polymers required. These polymers have high molecular weights and are particularly advantageous in the plastics transformation field.

Process to produce polyparaphenylene vinylene or polyparathienylene

Disclosed is a method to obtain a film of composite material based on particles of conductive polymer, stabilized by a highly steric or highly ionic surfactant. The efficient stabilization of the particles makes it possible to control the progress of the dielectrical properties of the materials as a function of the conductive entity content, leading to the preparation of films with variable impedance. The method can be applied to the making of coatings that meet goals related to electromagnetic wide-band attenuation. FIG. 2 .

Disclosed is a novel method for obtaining conductive polymers enabling their conductive to be increased and thermally stabilized. The polymers are obtained by oxidative chemical process in the presence of a codopant, the anions of which are more stable than the oxidating anions. The synthesis of the polymer is furthermore followed by a thermal treatment operation by which the conductivity of the material obtained is stabilized. Application: microwave absorbents.
