The present disclosure provides a method of forming an inner barrel assembly by installing a fluid collection liner including a pre-formed porous material that is able to retain a reservoir fluid in an inner barrel to form an inner barrel assembly. It also provides an inner barrel assembly including an inner barrel and a fluid collection liner disposed in the inner barrel, the fluid collection liner comprising a plurality of sections of pre-formed porous material that are able to retain at least one reservoir fluid. It further provides an inner barrel assembly including a segment of an inner barrel isolated from a bottom hole assembly and a fluid collection liner disposed in the inner barrel, the fluid collection liner including a pre-formed porous material that is able to retain a reservoir fluid.

The inner barrel system includes a coring inner barrel. The system also includes a connector sub coupled to the coring inner barrel. The connector sub includes a tubular wall defining a central axis and a shear zone extending longitudinally along at least a portion of the tubular wall. The shear zone severs with less force than the coring inner barrel.

A crimping connection for an inner tube is disclosed. An inner barrel system includes a first coring inner barrel; a second coring inner barrel; and a crimp ring overlapping an end of the first coring inner barrel and an end of the second coring inner barrel and compressed to mechanically couple the first coring inner barrel with the second coring inner barrel.

A wellbore reamer assembly positionable on a drill string in a wellbore includes a reamer body having an internal cavity and multiple radial openings, multiple cutting structures each positioned in one of the radial openings in the reamer body, and a fluid-activated expandable support element positioned in the internal cavity of the reamer body adjacent the cutting structures. The cutting structures are extendable radially away from a central longitudinal axis of the reamer body through respective radial openings and retractable toward the central longitudinal axis of the reamer body.

Described herein is an inner tube for a core barrel which has a structure adapted to retain lubricant for lubricating a sampled core. The internal surface of the inner tube includes a plurality of structures to retain lubricant adjacent a core received in the inner tube. An example structure is multiple alveoli in which lubricant is retained.

Methods and apparatus for coring

A method of hydraulically activating a mechanically operated wellbore tool in a bottom hole assembly includes: holding moveable elements of the wellbore tool in an unactivated position using a shear pin; inserting one or more drop balls into a drilling fluid; and flowing the drilling fluid with the drop balls to a flow orifice located in or below the wellbore tool. The flow orifice is at least partially plugged with the drop balls to restrict fluid flow and correspondingly increases the hydraulic pressure of the drilling fluid. The hydraulic pressure is increased to a point beyond the rating of the shear pin, thereby causing the shear pin to shear and allowing the moveable elements of the tool to move to an activated position.

Hydraulic activation of mechanically operated bottom hole assembly tool

A tool control mechanism is configured to activate and deactivate a drill string tool by hydraulic action of drilling fluid. The tool control mechanism is switchable between an activation mode and a deactivation mode. In the activation mode, a hydraulic activator ram is coupled to a tool switch member to drive the switch member in an activation direction in response to above-threshold drilling fluid conditions. In the deactivation mode, a deactivator ram is coupled to the tool switch member to drive the switch member in a deactivation direction opposite to the activation direction, when above-threshold drilling fluid conditions occur. The tool control mechanism is switchable between the activation mode and the deactivation mode by operator-controlled drilling fluid pressure variations.

A described bottom hole assembly includes a drill bit arranged at a distal end of a drill string and rotatable about a first central axis, the drill bit exhibiting a first unbalance force acting laterally on the drill bit at a first angular orientation, a first unbalance force marking physically applied to the drill bit and corresponding to the first unbalance force, a tool arranged axially from the drill bit, the tool exhibiting a second unbalance force acting laterally on the tool at a second angular orientation, and a second unbalance force marking physically applied to the tool and corresponding to the second unbalance force, wherein an angular offset between the first and second unbalance forces markings is able to be manipulated in order to obtain a minimized or desired tandem resulting unbalance force.

Unbalance force identifiers and balancing methods for drilling equipment assemblies

An activation assembly for a wellbore tool positionable in a wellbore includes a housing, a wellbore tool coupled to the housing, and a tool activator operatively coupled to the wellbore tool. The tool activator includes first and second fixedly connected circular disks, each of which includes a plurality of radially projecting teeth disposed around an outer circumferential surface of the disk. The disks are rotatably mounted about a longitudinal axis of the housing. The tool activator further includes a key member having a head portion engageable with the teeth of the first and second disks. The key member is located within the housing such that the disks rotate through a limited angular distance in response to movement of the key member.

Multi shot activation system

In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a drilling tool includes a tubular body defining a longitudinal axial cavity extending therethrough and defining at least one cutter element recess. The drilling tool also includes a cutter element at least partially disposed within the at least one cutter element recess and includes at least first and second cutting arms at least substantially disposed within the cutter element recess in a retracted position. The first and second cutting arms are operable to move from the retracted position to an extended position in which the first and second cutting arms extend at least partially beyond a periphery of the tubular body. The first and second cutting arms and the tubular body enclose a space when the first and second cutting arms are in the extended position.

Reaming and stabilization tool and method for its use in a borehole

An underreaming tool may include a tubular body, a drive tube, at least one blade element ('the blade element'), at least one wedge element ('the wedge element'), and a stop mechanism. The drive tube may include at least one longitudinal groove (&#x201c;the longitudinal groove&#x201d;) axially disposed along a length of the drive tube. The wedge element may include a first side having at least one lateral projection (&#x201c;the lateral projection&#x201d;) configured to axially slide into the longitudinal groove to couple the wedge element to the drive tube. The stop mechanism comprises a threaded sleeve configured to screw onto the drive tube to lock the wedge element in the longitudinal groove once the lateral projection is slid into the longitudinal groove.
