An air terminal for a heating or air conditioning system including a housing, a fresh air inlet in the housing to supply a fresh airflow to the air terminal, an outlet diffuser at the housing to allow airflow from the air terminal into a conditioned space, an inlet diffuser located at the housing to allow return airflow from the conditioned space into the air terminal, a coil located in the housing to condition the fresh airflow and/or the return airflow prior to the fresh airflow and/or the return airflow flowing into the conditioned space. A fan is located in the housing to urge return airflow through the inlet diffuser and across the coil. The fan and the inlet diffuser are located at a first side of the coil and the outlet diffuser and the fresh air inlet are located at a second side of the coil opposite the first side.

Air terminal for heating or air conditioning system

A method and apparatus for controlling an HVAC system. The method may include receiving a fan speed signal from a fan control loop, and choosing among an independent mode, a first linked mode, and a second linked mode, depending on the fan speed signal. The method may also include providing a signal to a pressure control loop to reduce a speed of a supply air fan of an AHU, when the first linked mode is chosen. The method may further include providing a signal to a temperature control loop to decrease a speed of a heat exchange wheel, to decrease a flow rate of a heat exchange fluid to an evaporator coil, or both, when the second linked mode is chosen. The method may additionally include allowing the fan control loop to operate independently of the temperature and pressure control loops, when the independent mode is chosen.

A system includes a heat exchanger; a variable actuator in operative communication with the heat exchanger and configured to vary a flow of a first fluid through the heat exchanger in a continuous manner; a discrete actuator in communication with the heat exchanger and configured to vary a flow of a second fluid through the heat exchanger at one of at least two discrete rates; and a controller in communication with the variable actuator and the discrete actuator, wherein the controller is configured to adjust the position of the variable actuator within a range dependent upon a current position of the discrete actuator.

System for coordinated flow control of fluids through a heat exchanger

An air conditioning system includes a climatic beam located in a room. The climatic beam includes a first portion and a second portion, and a divider located along a length of the climatic beam to separate the first portion from the second portion. The climatic beam further includes a coil supplied with a flow of fluid. A fresh air duct is connected to the first portion to provide a flow of fresh air into the first portion, and a fan is located at the second portion and is configured to draw a flow of primary air across the coil and into the second portion. A beam exit allows a flow of the fresh air and the primary air into the room.

Sensing, actuation of apparatus, and a control algorithm for use in automatically controlling an air-conditioning system by sensing multiple conditions and responding by actuating the mechanical components of the air-conditioning system to optimize the temperature of the coolant fluid, provide improved zone temperature control, provide status of system components, and provide an alert if there is overheating of a supply side system mechanical component.

Air-conditioning control algorithm employing air and fluid inputs

A photocatalytic air purifier is disclosed. The photocatalytic purifier includes filter structures coated with a catalytic material such as titanium dioxide. One or more UV lamps are interposed between the filter structures. The catalytic layer reacts with airborne VOCs and bioaerosols when activated by the UV lamps to thereby oxidize the VOCs and destroy the bioaerosols. The photocatalytic air purifier does not need to be replaced or regenerated after a period of continuous usage. The photocatalytic purifier of the present invention substantially eliminates odors, VOCs, and bioaerosols from air directed through the fan coil. The photocatalytic air purifier includes a control system that optimizes operating costs. Because of these features, service, maintenance, and filter replacement are reduced to a minimum. At the same time, the well being of persons living in the space conditioned by the photocatalytic air purifier is improved.

Ceiling apparatus for heating or cooling a space includes one or more spiral shaped coils mounted to individual thermally conductive ceiling tiles suspended above the space to be heated or cooled. The spiral shaped coils are interconnected by flexible hose connections so as to define one or more paths of a heat exchange fluid flowing through the coils so as to provide or remove heat from the ceiling tiles.

In an air conditioning system which includes a catalytic air purifier, a control system is provided for sensing the level of predetermined conditions in a space and for responsively modulating the air purification process in a manner which optimizes the process in terms of its effectiveness and its economical use. The conditions that are sensed include the levels of VOC's, CO , and biological contaminants, as well as degree of occupancy, relative humidity and air flow. The air purification process is modulated by varying the power to a UV lamp, turning one or more UV lamps on or off, varying the effectiveness of the catalyst, varying the volume or speed of the air flowstream and/or varying the relative humidity in the space.
