The present disclosure relates to systems and method for deploying a fiber optic network. Distribution devices are used to index fibers within the system to ensure that live fibers are provided at output locations throughout the system. In an example, fibers can be indexed in multiple directions within the system. In an example, spare ports can be providing in a forward direction and reverse direction ports can also be provided.

Fiber indexing systems

The present disclosure relates to indexing cables for use in building fiber optic networks using an indexing architecture. In certain examples, fan-out structures are used. Certain types of indexing cables have one or more branch cable sections at each end. Certain types of indexing cables have multiple interface cable sections at one or both ends.

A cable storage device () includes a removal station () and a storage spool (). Slack length of the cable () is advanced into the cable storage device. At least a jacket () of the cable () is removed at the removal station (). At least a signal-carrying portion of the cable () is wound at the storage spool (). The removed jacket () exits the cable storage device (). The cable () can be axially secured at the cable storage device (). Certain types of spools can index the cable.

Switching technology may be incorporated into various systems, components, and/or architectures in a fiber optic network to promote network reconfigurability and design flexibility. A signal access unit comprises an input, an output, an access port, a switch arrangement including a switch, and a controller. The switch optically couples the input to the output and not to the access port when in a first configuration, and optically couples the access port to at least one of the input and the output without optically coupling the input and the output together when in a second configuration. The controller is configured to receive an indication of a selected wavelength and to operate the switch arrangement to change the switch between the first and second configurations based on the indication of the selected wavelength.

Reconfigurable optical networks

An optical connection terminal includes a first connection module and a second connection module that each terminate multi-fiber cables. The second connection module operatively couples to the first connection module so that at least one of the optical connectors of the first connection module directly optically couples with one of the optical connectors of the second connection module. A connection between the at least one optical connector of the first connection module and the optical connector of the second connection module is sealed from an exterior of the terminal.

The present disclosure relates to indexing cables for use in building fiber optic networks using an indexing architecture. In certain examples, fan-out structures () are used. Certain types of indexing cables have one or more branch cable sections at each end. Certain types of indexing cables have multiple interface cable sections at one or both ends. Interface multi-fiber connectors (A,B,A,B,) and branch multi-fiber connectors () terminate ends of optical lines, the ends are separated into branch and interface sets with the branch sets having fewer optical lines than the respective interface sets.

The present disclosure relates to a fiber optic network architecture that uses a factory manufactured break-out cable as a backbone for supporting a chain or chains of indexing optical components that branch outwardly from the factory manufactured break-out cable so as to extend the reach of a fiber optic network.
