A text messaging system that allows messaging apps to send one or more layer identifiers that can specify content for a layer and Z depth of that layer relative to other layers in a text message transcript such as a sent message layer and a received message layer.

Layers in messaging applications

A system, method and non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium are disclosed for implementing dynamic layout rules for attributed text strings having different type styles. In some implementations, developers can use an Application Programming Interface (API) or a design tool to specify dynamic text layout rules for rendering attributed text strings in a user interface (UI). Various text attributes associated with the different type styles (e.g., font metrics) are dynamically adjusted based on the dynamic text layout rules to improve the readability of the text when, for example, font sizes are adjusted. In some implementations, one or more parameters of a text container, text container region, line-fragment or display object are dynamically adjusted based on the dynamic text layout rules to improve the readability of the text.

Dynamic text layout rules

According to one embodiment, in response to an inquiry received from a first application for an extension service associated with a first of a plurality of extension points of an operating system, a list of one or more extensions is identified that have been registered for the first extension point with the operating system, where the first application is executed within a first sandboxed environment. The identified list of extensions is displayed to prompt a user to select one of the extensions to be associated with the first application. In response to a selection of one of the extensions, the selected extension is launched in a second sandboxed environment. The selected extension and the second application were packaged in an application bundle, and when the application bundle was installed, the selected extension and the second application appeared in a registry of the operating system as separate applications.

Techniques, systems, and methods for allowing a user to select amongst different collection views and to animate the transition from one collection view to another. To select a different collection view, the user may provide a certain gesture on the display screen which causes the items displayed in the current collection view to transition in an animated fashion to a new collection view selected by the particular gesture. The particular type of animation between different collection views depends upon the manner in which the items in each collection view are defined in their respective layouts and the manner that facilitates a relatively seamless transition of the items from one layout to another layout.

Systems and methods for animating between collection views

A method of sharing a calendar between a plurality of users, the calendar being capable of holding one or more events. The method comprises providing the calendar to each of said plurality of users; allowing any of said plurality of users to add to the calendar any of a new event, a change to an event and a message relating to an event; and providing any new event, change to an event or message added by a user to the other users. A change to an event may comprise a change to at least one of a start time of the event, an end time of the event, a description of the event, a status of the event, whether the event is to be repeated and the persons attending the event.

Freeform communication in calendaring system

A method of sharing a calendar between a plurality of users is described where the calendar is capable of holding one or more events. The method includes providing the calendar to each of said plurality of users. The method further includes allowing any of the plurality of users to add to the calendar a new event, a change to an event and a message relating to an event. The method further includes providing a new event, change to an event and/or message added by a user to the other users including automatically displaying at least one updated calendar to its respective other user without said other user having to cause said updated calendar to be fetched through a network.

A method of sharing a group of one or more objects between a plurality of users, the method comprising providing the group of one or more objects to each user; allowing at least one user to effect a change to an object; providing each change effected by a user to the other users; and providing each user with an indication of all changes made to an object. In addition or instead, the method may comprise providing a notification to the other users of the change. The group may be a calendar and each object may be an event in the calendar.

Retaining intermediate states of shared groups of objects and notification of changes to shared groups of objects

A method of sharing a group of one or more objects between a plurality of users, in which one or more of said plurality of users is able to change parameter data of at least one said object. The method comprises storing at least one version of each said object; when an object is changed, creating a new version of the object, the new version of the object comprising additional data relating to the creation of the new version; storing the new version of the object together with any version of that object before the change; providing all versions of the object to each of said plurality of users; and using the additional data provided for each version of the object to determine how to display the object. The group may be a calendar and each object may be an event in the calendar. In that case, the object parameter data may comprise a start time of the event, an end time of the event, a description of the event, a status of the event, whether the event is to be repeated and the persons attending the event. The additional data may comprise an identification of the user who made the change, a time at which the change was made, a description of the change, a user comment relating to the change and an identification of the previous version of the event from which the present version was created.
