An image generator generates images of a set of virtual fibers and effects thereon by processing representations of the set of fibers and computing representation of a virtual surface for a fiber clump in the set of virtual fibers from an artist parameter representing a desired artist effect, computing correlations of the vertices from a set of vertices based on associations of the vertices corresponding to the artist parameter, computing a set of relevant vertices using the correlations of the vertices, computing orthogonal gradients to produce a plurality of gradients using a selected vertex and the set of relevant vertices for the fiber clump, and computing the virtual surface of the fiber clump from the plurality of gradients.

Method for computation of local densities for virtual fibers

A computer-implemented method for processing a set of virtual fibers into a set of clusters of virtual fibers, usable for manipulation on a cluster basis in a computer graphics generation system, may include determining aspects for virtual fibers in the set of virtual fibers, determining similarity scores between the virtual fibers based on their aspects, and determining an initial cluster comprising the virtual fibers of the set of virtual fibers. The method may further include instantiating a cluster list in at least one memory, adding the initial cluster to the cluster list, partitioning the initial cluster into a first subsequent cluster and a second subsequent cluster based on similarity scores among fibers in the initial cluster, adding the first subsequent cluster and the second subsequent cluster to the cluster list, and testing whether a number of clusters in the cluster list is below a predetermined threshold.

Method for computation relating to clumps of virtual fibers

A computer-implemented method for procedurally simulating braided strands of fibers may include, under the control of one or more computer systems configured with executable instructions, obtaining a set of parameters of the braided strands of the fibers, the set of parameters indicating a braid spine, generating, based at least in part on the set of parameters, a set of interlacing strand spines that follow the braid spine within a tolerance according to the set of parameters, and computing a set of first geometric structures corresponding to the set of interlacing strand spines.

System for procedural generation of braid representations in a computer image generation system

A representation of a surface in a three-dimensional space is obtained. A first input representing a starting point and a second input representing a next point are obtained. A representation of a surface-aware spline comprising vertices is generated, with the representation of the surface-aware spline including a starting vertex corresponding to the starting point and a next vertex corresponding to the next point. First and second projection points corresponding to projections of a first vertex and a second vertex onto the surface are determined. New points corresponding to equal distance points for the first and second vertices aligned with the first and second projection points are determined, and a rigid transformation is determined from the new points. The representation of the surface-aware spline is adjusted based on a transformation of the new points using the rigid transformation.
