A sheet material processing unit () is described. It comprises an upper tool () and a lower tool (), wherein the upper tool () and the lower tool () are configured to interact with each other in order to process sheet material (). Furthermore, a camera unit () is provided which is arranged such that it is able to simultaneously capture a portion of the upper tool () comprising a first opening () and a portion of the lower tool () lying behind the first opening () for aligning the tools (). The sheet material processing unit () additionally comprises a first and a second set of light sources which are distinct from one another and are configured for subsequently illuminating the portions to be captured. Moreover, methods for assessing an alignment of the upper tool () with respect to the lower tool () and with respect to the sheet material () are presented.

In a method of aligning an upper and a lower changeable tool () in a device for processing, e.g., sheets of paper, provision is made that with the aid of at least one digital camera (), the upper changeable tool () is aligned with a sheet that has been moved in and the lower changeable tool () is aligned relative to the upper changeable tool () after the sheet has been moved out.

A guiding structure () is provided, along which a flat element () is guidable and transportable along a transport direction (T). Arrangement and method for handling paper elements

A holding device () for a succession of sheet-shaped elements circulating in a processing machine () along conveying path T. The holding device () has two series () of a plurality of suction members (). At least one series of suction membersextends along and is movably mounted parallel to the transport path T of the sheets, between a retracted position and a deployed position. Each series is in an array, parallel to the transport path and the suction members are arranged spaced apart alongside one another, so that the array of members extend perpendicular to the conveying path T of the sheets and the suction members () of each series () are transversely offset relative to the suction members () of the other series ().
