An input device comprises a depressible element with two switches including a first switch configured to generate a first signal when the depressible element is depressed by a threshold distance and a second switch configured to generate a second signal indicating when the depressible element is depressed by the threshold distance and the second switch is in an active state. One or more processors may be configured to receive the first signal from the first switch; configure the second switch to change from an inactive state to an active state in response to receiving the first signal; receive the second signal from the second switch in the active state; determine whether the second signal indicates that the depressible element is depressed by the threshold distance; and generate event data confirming that the depressible element is depressed by the threshold distance in response to receiving the second signal.

Hybrid switch for an input device

Some embodiments related to an input device with a hybrid switch coupled to a depressible element. The hybrid switch can include a first and second switch with both switches configured to activate in response to a depressible element being pressed by a user. In some aspects, the hybrid switch architecture can be used to introduce an interrupt signal when the depressible element is pressed by a threshold distance (thereby generating event data) to ensure that a periodic input device report includes the event data regardless of when a periodic switch status check is performed. In further embodiments, the hybrid switch architecture can be used to calibrate the input device and set a reliable preemptive activation threshold that cause the input device to generate event data.

Latency and preemptive detection for an input device

One aspect of the present invention is an apparatus and method for improved cursor control in a device which can operate both on a work surface and in air. Cursor resolution is reduced as the user engages with the device for clicking, leading to more precise movement closer to the target, as well as reduced parasitic and other unintentional motion of the cursor during clicking. A system, method, and method of manufacturing directed to an optical device with increased accuracy in tracking ability. The increased accuracy can be achieved by using a multiple sensor system. A second sensor is added to the optical device. The second sensor increases the probability of obtaining a high quality image. Thus, the tracking ability of the device can be performed with greater accuracy over a single sensor device. The second sensor can also perform additional functions.

An encoder having a movable element with a first polarized filter coupled to the movable element. A second polarized filter is either stationary, or moves differently from the first polarized filter. A photo-emitter and photodetector are arranged on opposite sides of the two polarized filters. Thus, when the polarized filters are aligned in phase, a maximum amount of light will penetrate to the photodetector. However, as they become out of phase due to movement of one of the filters, the amount of light will decrease, as a function of the amount of movement.
