A method for assisting in navigation of a medical instrument such as a catheter inside a hollow body such as a vascular system based on a dataset provided by a sensor device of the medical instrument is provided The method includes determining, by a control device, an internal extent of the hollow body based on the provided dataset and determining, by the control device, a navigation path for an impending movement of the medical instrument through the hollow body based on the determined internal extent. The control device is able to generate a control signal that describes a movement along the navigation path.

Moreover, provision is made for a visualization module for the volumetric visualization of the biomechanical structure model.

Device and method for the computer-assisted simulation of surgical interventions

A system comprises a catheter including a lens, for acquiring optical coherence tomography images within the vessel of interest as the catheter is being retracted from the vessel in the presence of contrast agent. An X-ray imaging system interface receives a first set of X-ray images of an anatomical region including the vessel of interest containing the catheter. The first set of X-ray images are acquired at points corresponding to the particular points within a heart cycle, while the catheter is stationary in the vessel, in response to a heart electrical activity representative signal and in the absence of contrast agent. An image data processor associates the received X-ray images and corresponding optical coherence tomography image data derived at corresponding time points within respective acquisition heart cycles.

A method is for segmenting an object in a medical image with a plurality of iteration steps. In an embodiment of the method, each iteration step includes generating a plurality of patches, a portion of the input image and a patch location being assigned to each patch, the patch location being indicative of the location of the portion of the input image relative to the input image. For each patch of the plurality of patches, the method includes determining a vote location based on the portion of the input image assigned to that patch and determining a target location based on the vote location and the patch location assigned to that patch. Finally, in an embodiment the method includes generating a vote map, each patch of the plurality of patches contributing to a pixel value at the target location of the patch in the vote map.

Method and data processing unit for segmenting an object in a medical image

A method and system for patient-specific planning and guidance of an ablation procedure for cardiac arrhythmia is disclosed. A patient-specific anatomical heart model is generated based on pre-operative cardiac image data. The patient-specific anatomical heart model is registered to a coordinate system of intra-operative images acquired during the ablation procedure. One or more ablation site guidance maps are generated based on the registered patient-specific anatomical heart model and intra-operative patient-specific measurements acquired during the ablation procedure. The ablation site guidance maps may include myocardium diffusion and action potential duration maps. The ablation site guidance maps are generated using a computational model of cardiac electrophysiology which is personalized by fitting parameters of the cardiac electrophysiology model using the intra-operative patient-specific measurements. The ablation site guidance maps are displayed by a display device during the ablation procedure.

System and method for patient specific planning and guidance of ablative procedures for cardiac arrhythmias

A method and system for co-registration of angiography data and intra vascular ultrasound (IVUS) data is disclosed. A vessel branch is detected in an angiogram image. A sequence of IVUS images is received from an IVUS transducer while the IVUS transducer is being pulled back through the vessel branch. A fluoroscopic image sequence is received while the IVUS transducer is being pulled back through the vessel branch. The IVUS transducer and a guiding catheter tip are detected in each frame of the fluoroscopic image sequence. The IVUS transducer detected in each frame of the fluoroscopic image sequence is mapped to a respective location in the detected vessel branch of the angiogram image. Each of the IVUS images is registered to a respective location in the detected vessel branch of the angiogram image based on the mapped location of the IVUS transducer detected in a corresponding frame of the fluoroscopic image sequence.
