Motion-based handoff control techniques are disclosed. For example, an apparatus may include a signal strength determination module, a motion determination module, and a handoff controller. The signal strength determination module generates signal strength information corresponding to the strength of a wireless signal received from a first wireless link. From this information, the motion determination module determines a motion characteristic of the apparatus. Based on the motion characteristic, the handoff controller performs handoff operations for a second wireless link. In this manner, handoff operations may be tailored to the operational characteristics of the apparatus. For instance, certain handoff operations may be halted when the motion characteristic indicates the apparatus having a substantially stationary position. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Motion based handoff control

Techniques involving the management of display parameters are disclosed. For example, an apparatus may include a display, a radio module, and a control module. The display employs various operational parameters, which can take on different values. Exemplary parameters include refresh rate and/or pixel clock rate. The radio module may receive a wireless signal at one or more reception frequencies. The control module may select values for these operational parameters of the display. This selection may be made according to characteristics of interference that would be emitted from the display at the one or more reception frequencies. Upon making this selection, the control module may direct the display to employ the selected parameter values.

Management of display parameters in communications devices

Various embodiments are directed to systems and techniques for reducing power consumption in a mobile computing device. In one or more embodiments, a mobile computing device may be arranged to determine a user environment based on detected antenna impedance or detected current. After the user environment is determined, the mobile computing device may confirm that total radiation power (TRP) for the mobile computing device at an initial conducted power level exceeds the minimum TRP threshold required by the network carrier to receive acceptable quality of service (QoS). Based on the excess TRP for the particular user environment, the mobile computing device may determine a reduced conducted power level to be input to an antenna system. Accordingly, significant power savings may be achieved. To save additional power, the mobile computing device may automatically adjust and/or improve antenna impedance matching based on user environment allowing a further reduction in conducted power.

Systems and techniques for reducing power consumption in a mobile computing device

Techniques for coordinating transmissions in wireless communications are disclosed. For instance, an apparatus includes a first transceiver, a second transceiver, and a control module. The first transceiver communicates across a wireless link of a first type, and the second transceiver communicates across a wireless link of a second type. Examples of such first and second types include cellular links and data networking links. The control module authorizes the second transceiver to send wireless transmission upon the occurrence of a compressed mode transmission gap allocated to the first transceiver. Moreover, during this transmission gap, the first transceiver refrains from sending wireless transmissions.

Coordination of transmissions in wireless communications devices

Various embodiments are directed to systems and techniques for reducing power consumption in a mobile computing device. Techniques involving the coordination of wireless activities are disclosed. For example, an apparatus may include two or more transceivers. These transceivers may include a first transceiver to communicate wirelessly across cellular links, and a second transceiver to communicate wirelessly across wireless data networking links. The apparatus may also include controllers, each controlling wireless communications of a corresponding transceiver. Information may be exchanged with each other regarding operation of the transceivers. Through the exchange of such information, activity (e.g., transmission and reception of wireless signals) may be coordinated among the transceivers.

Coordination among multiple co-located radio modules

Various embodiments to reduce radio frequency noise are described. An apparatus may comprise a mobile computing device having a radio frequency noise reduction module to disable a radio frequency noise source in response to a receive active signal from a radio receiver. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques to reduce radio frequency noise

Antenna sharing techniques are described. A mobile computing device may comprise an antenna, a switch to couple to the antenna, and multiple transceivers to couple to the switch. The mobile computing device may also comprise an antenna management module to couple to the switch and the transceivers. The antenna management module may control the switch to electrically connect one of the transceivers to the antenna. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.
