A tensioner comprising a first pivot arm having a first pulley journalled thereto and engagable with a mounting surface through a first pivot axis, a second pivot arm having a second pulley journalled thereto, the second pivot arm pivotally engaged to the first pivot arm through a second pivot axis, the second pivot axis disposed from the first pivot axis, a biasing member engaged between the first pivot arm and the second pivot arm urging the first pulley toward the second pulley, and the second pivot axis is between the first pulley and the first pivot axis.

A tensioner comprising a base, a pivot arm pivotally engaged with the base, a torsion spring engaged between the base and the pivot arm for biasing the pivot arm, a first damping member and a second damping member disposed between the pivot arm and the base, the first damping member wedgingly engagable between the pivot arm and the second damping member, and the second damping member frictionally engaged between the first damping member and the base.

A vehicle engine cooling system includes a coupling assembly to be connected to and rotated by a vehicle engine output shaft. An electric motor includes a motor shaft having first and second ends. An impeller is coupled to the first end of the motor shaft. A clutch structure is integral with the electric motor and includes an input member carried by the second end of the motor shaft for rotation therewith. An end of the coupling structure is operatively associated with the input member to cause rotation of the input member upon rotation of the coupling assembly. An electro-magnet structure is disposed about the input member. The clutch structure also includes output structure having a mounting member fixed to the motor shaft. A movable element, including magnetically permeable material, is mounted with respect to the mounting member for rotational movement therewith and for movement between a non-engaging position and an engaging position. A spring biases the movable element towards the non-engaging position. A switching structure is operatively associated with the electric motor and with the electro-magnet structure and is movable between a first position providing electric current to the electric motor and a second position providing electric current to the electro-magnet structure. When the switching structure is in the second position, the movable element moves to the engaging position. When the switching structure is moved to the first position, the electro-magnet structure is deenergized and the spring returns the movable element to the non-engaging position with.

Hybrid engine cooling system having electric motor with electro-magnetic

A direct current motor having a primary armature winding, a secondary armature winding and a switching circuit adapted to selectively energize the primary winding and the secondary winding to achieve three-speed motor operation is disclosed. The system is adapted to achieve a high speed of the motor by energizing only the primary winding, a medium speed of the motor by energizing only the secondary winding, and a low speed of the motor by energizing both the primary winding and the secondary winding. The system also includes a voltage source providing a direct current level voltage with respect to an electric ground and a switching circuit adapted to operate the motor. The switching circuit is coupled to the voltage supply for energizing the primary winding only to achieve a high speed, energizing only the secondary winding to achieve a medium speed, and energizing both the primary winding and the secondary winding in series with each other to achieve a low speed. A method of operating the motor also disclosed.
