An active protection system includes a surveillance camera unit, a detection and countermeasure unit, and a central processing unit. The surveillance camera unit is configured to provide an all-round view and image data of a region of interest. The detection and countermeasure unit is configured to detect a potential threat and, upon a confirmation, to activate a countermeasure suitable to at least mitigate the threat. The central processing unit is configured to confirm the detected potential threat based on the image data of the surveillance camera unit and to provide data indicating the confirmed treat.

An optronic system () for a countermeasure unit () to optically communicate with another communication terminal is disclosed. The countermeasure unit () comprises a laser beam source () and a directing device () for a laser beam () of the laser beam source () and is configured to dazzle or to jam an object of threat (). A system for jamming a target acquisition, which starts at a position and may be detected by a detector that provides a detection signal in response to the target acquisition includes a warning device for outputting a warning, in case the detector outputs a detection signal. The system also includes an optical jammer configured to provide at least one jamming signal, and a directing device configured to direct the jamming signal towards the position in response to the output warning in order to prevent target acquisition or at least to make target acquisition more difficult.
