A combination touch and transducer input system is provided, which facilitates user input into an electronic system with a finger and/or a transducer (e.g., a stylus). The system includes a transducer configured to generate an electric field, and a sensor including an array of electrodes and a controller. The transducer is configured to transmit digital data, such as pen pressure data and switch status data, to the sensor. For example, the transducer comprises electronic circuitry configured to encode the digital data in a signal for transmission to the sensor. The sensor controller is configured to operate both in a touch sensing mode and in a transducer sensing mode. During the touch sensing mode, the controller determines a position of a proximate object (e.g., a finger) by capacitively sensing the object with the array of electrodes. During the transducer sensing mode, the controller determines a position of the transducer based on a signal received by the array of electrodes from the transducer, and also receives and decodes the digital data encoded in the received signal. Digital data can be encoded in a signal using any suitable digital modulation techniques, such as a Frequency-Shift Keying (FSK) technique.

Combination touch and transducer input system and method

Toward forming a single hybrid biosensing-imaging system that can operate inside an incubator, structures and methods are directed to placing modular and removable biosensors and biocompatible interfaces in 3D transparent test wells that contain biological samples. The technology enables continuous monitoring of multiple simultaneous parameters and functions of a living cell or cell clusters such as alterations of cellular ligands, physicochemical biomarkers, phenotypes, and/or extracellular compositions upon interactions with analytes or during progressions. Methods of capturing and analyzing direct orthogonal information from biological samples in 2D and 3D, which are conducive to generating new insights are presented.

Orthogonal polybiosensing and imaging systems

A device for capturing and concentrating volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in a sample of breath air. The device includes an intake for accepting an air sample; a disposable mouth piece; a sensor array for measuring physical parameters of the air sample; an exhaled air sampler for capturing a pre-determined volume of air; a concentrator for concentrating VOCs in the air sample; and an ionic liquid collector, the latter of which may be removed from the device. The ionic liquid collector, which may have one compartment or multiple compartments, includes at least one ionic liquid. Analysis of VOCs in the ionic liquid or liquids may identify biomarkers that can provide a medical diagnosis for a human patient based on a sample of breath air.

Device for capturing and concentrating volatile organic compounds

A device for measuring the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air. The device includes a sample chamber for accepting a sample of air; at least one ionization source for ionizing VOCs in the sample; an ionic liquid trap containing an ionic liquid that captures the ionized VOCs; a circuit for generating a electric current through the device to run the ionization and capture of the ionized VOCs; and a chemical sensor for detecting and measuring concentrations of the VOCs in the sample of air. The device, which may be hand-held, portable, or designed to sit on a bench top, may be used on any animal, including humans.

Device for detecting volatile organic compounds

A sol-gel deposition technique that forms ion sensitive layers is compatible with CMOS fabrication methods and is applied to build sensors of concentrations of solutions of selected target ions. The ion sensitive sensor may be formed on an exposed portion of a signal trace of a printed circuit board. Additionally, the ion sensitive layer may be formed within an ion sensitive field effect transistor.
