An automobile bumper arrangement includes a crossbeam coupled to side rails of an automobile via crash boxes, wherein the crossbeam has extensions disposed at end sections which are laterally supported on a corresponding crash box. A modular bumper system has a crossbeam, an extension and a crash box coupled to a side rail of an automobile, wherein the crossbeam has a standardized length and a vehicle-specific width of a bumper can be attained by varying the length of the extension.

A bumper for a motor vehicle has a cross member disposed transversely in relation to side rails of a vehicle frame and is supported on the side rails by crash boxes. The cross member includes a central longitudinal section having opposite ends, a crash box attachment section with a substantially vertical rear wall and two legs, and an end section having in cross-section a U-shaped configuration defined by two legs and a web which interconnects the legs and forms an outward-projecting bulge. The bulge is joined with the substantially vertical rear wall of the attachment section.

Bumper for a motor vehicle

The invention relates to a method for producing a hardened sheet metal section from a flat blank, wherein the flat blank is provided with collared holes that are collared and with two groove-like indentations which serve to support the sheet metal blank on a conveyor during heating treatment in an oven; subsequently, the blank is formed in a press tool into a sheet metal section by warm forming and where, if required, the formed indentations can be flattened; and thereafter the section is hardened while remaining clamped within the tool.

Method for producing a hardened sheet metal section

A motor-vehicle bumper assembly has a transverse rigid and U-shaped rail having an inner wall closely juxtaposed in a normal motor-vehicle travel direction with a frame of a motor vehicle, an outer wall spaced farther from the frame than the inner wall, and a horizontal wall extending between the inner and outer walls. Two crush cans spaced transversely apart support the rail on the motor-vehicle frame. Each can has a first U-section element extending in the direction and having an inner end fixed to the frame and an outer end fixed to the inner rail wall and a second U-section element nested with and mostly vertically offset from the respective first element and having an inner end fixed to the frame and an outer end extending past the inner rail wall. An outer mounting plate is fixed to the second-element outer end and to the outer rail wall.
