Molybdenum composites containing silicon and boron for environmental resistance are combined so as to minimize the silicon solid solution in the molybdenum phase. The composites include ratios of molybdenum, silicon, and boron to form three phase mixtures of molybdenum, A15 (MoSi), and T2 (MoSiB) or molybdenum, SiO, and T2 (MoSiB). Beneficial additives, including manganese and strontium aluminosilicate, are included to improve the composite's properties. Manufacturing processes to produce these composites as either powders or solid parts are included.

Multiple substrates containing plasma-shells are tiled together edge to edge to form a self-supporting structure such as a dome or hemisphere for radiation detection.

A gas discharge device constructed out of one or more plasma-shells with an organic luminescent substance located on an external portion of each plasma-shell, the organic substance being excited by photons from a gas discharge within the plasma-shell. In one embodiment, the plasma-shell is made of an inorganic luminescent substance. The external organic luminescent substance may contain or be combined with an inorganic substance that may also be a luminescent substance. The plasma-shell may contain both inorganic and organic substances.

Plasma-shells filled with ionizable gas are positioned on or within a rigid, flexible, or semi-flexible substrate. Each plasma-shell is electrically connected to one or more electrical conductors such as electrodes with an electrically conductive bonding substance to form an electrical connection to each electrode. The electrically conductive bonding substance may comprise a pad connected to the plasma-shell and/or an electrode.

A plasma-shell for use in a gas discharge (plasma) display is formed by coating an organic core including a polymeric core with an aqueous suspension of inorganic particles. The coated core is heated to a temperature sufficient to remove the organic core and form a porous bisque shell of inorganic particles with a hollow center. The shell is submerged in an atmosphere of ionizable gas suitable for a gas discharge PDP device. The gas submerged porous shell is heated to an elevated temperature sufficient to sinter and seal the gas-filled shell. The result is a plasma-shell containing an ionizable gas at a predetermined pressure for use in a gas discharge PDP. The plasma-shell may be of any volumetric shape or geometric configuration. Plasma-shell includes plasma-sphere, plasma-disc, and plasma-dome.

Aqueous manufacturing process and article

An AC or DC microdischarge device that comprises a fluorescent conversion material (FCM) and a multiplicity of gas filled microcavity cells, each cell being connected to two or more electrodes to cause a gas discharge in the cell, the gas discharge providing photons that excite the FCM such that the FCM emits IR. In one embodiment, the electronic circuitry for each cell comprises at least one integrated active component such as a transistor. Other active components may be included such as a high speed shift register, addressing logic, and/or control circuits. In another embodiment, the microcavity and active components are made from the same substrate such as the same silicon wafer. The microdischarge device may include one or more electrodes encapsulated in a dielectric. The electrodes are configured to ignite a microdischarge in a microcavity cell when an AC or a pulsed DC excitation potential is applied between the electrodes connected to the cell. The devices include linear and planar arrays of microdischarge devices. The microcavities in the planar arrays may be selectively excited for display applications.

Electrode configurations for an AC or DC gas discharge plasma display panel (PDP) device having one or more substrates and a multiplicity of pixels or sub-pixels that are defined by a hollow plasma-shell filled with an ionizable gas. Plasma-shell includes plasma-disc, plasma-dome, and plasma-sphere. The invention is described with reference to a plasma-disc. The plasma-disc has at least two opposing flat sides such as a flat top and flat bottom. Two or more addressing electrodes are in electrical contact with each plasma-disc. At least one electrode is in electrical contact with a side of the plasma-disc that is not flat.

The metal foam composites show high strength, particularly in comparison to previous metal foams, while maintaining a favorable strength to density ratio. The composite metal foams can be prepared by various techniques, such as powder metallurgy and casting or aspiration casting.

A gas discharge device such as a plasma display panel (PDP) device having one or more substrates and a multiplicity of pixels or subpixels. Each pixel or subpixel is defined by a hollow Plasma-shell filled with an ionizable gas. One or more addressing electrodes are in electrical contact with each Plasma-shell. The Plasma-shell may include inorganic and organic luminescent materials including quantum dots that are excited by the gas discharge within each Plasma-shell. The luminescent material, including quantum dots, may be located on an exterior and/or interior surface of the Plasma-shell or incorporated into the shell of the Plasma-shell. Up-conversion and down-conversion materials may be used. The substrate may be rigid or flexible with a flat, curved, or irregular surface. In one embodiment, the Plasma-shell is in the geometric shape of a cube or cuboid.

A process for the manufacture of a hollow gas-filled Plasma-shells for a gas discharge device. The Plasma-shell is located in or on a substrate within the device with a dome side or flat side facing the viewing direction.
