Aspects of the subject technology relate to electronic devices having speakers. An electronic device may operate the speaker at or near one or more resonance frequencies of the speaker and/or the electronic device. This can allow the electronic device to efficiently eject an occlusion when the speaker is occluded by a fluid or other debris. For example, the electronic device may determine a resonance frequency by obtaining one or more electrical characteristics of an electronic component while the speaker is occluded, determine the resonance frequency based on the obtained electrical characteristic(s), and operate the speaker at a frequency that is based on the resonance frequency to eject the occlusion.

Aspects of the subject technology relate to electronic devices having speakers with resonators, such as Helmholtz resonators, acoustically coupled to the front volume of the speaker. A speaker module for an electronic device may include multiple resonators, including a first resonator that is acoustically separate from, and at least partially disposed within a second resonator. An acoustic barrier between the first resonator and the second resonator may have a liquid resistance that is different from a liquid resistance that is provided between the first resonator and a back volume of the speaker module and/or between an external environment of the speaker. In one or more implementations, a third resonator may be provided, that is spatially separated from first and second nested and/or adjacent resonators.

Aspects of the subject technology relate to electronic devices having speakers with vented resonators. A vented resonator may have a resonator chamber and a channel that fluidly couples a front volume of the speaker with the resonator chamber. A vent such as a barometric vent may be disposed in a wall of the resonator chamber that separates the resonator chamber from the back volume of the speaker. The barometric vent may thus allow airflow from the front volume to the back volume via the resonator chamber, and prevent fluid flow from the front volume to the back volume via the resonator chamber.

This application relates to a portable electronic device including a processor and an operational component assembly, the operational component assembly including a frame. The frame carries a sensor that is coupled to the frame, where the sensor is capable of (i) receiving an environmental stimulus, and (ii) subsequently, generating an environmental parameter based on the environmental stimulus. The operational components further include a speaker that includes a magnetic driver that is capable of generating a magnetic field in response to receiving the instructions, and a diaphragm that is capable of actuating in response to the magnetic field being generated by the magnetic driver. An opening is disposed at an external surface of the frame such that when an amount of moisture is present within the volume, the magnetic driver receives the instructions from the processor to generate a magnetic field that actuates the diaphragm so as to expel the moisture.

A transducer assembly including a transducer enclosure having an enclosure wall separating a surrounding ambient environment from an encased space, and a transducer module positioned within the encased space. The transducer module has a module wall that divides the encased space into an exterior chamber and an interior chamber and defines a fluid port between the exterior chamber and the interior chamber, the exterior chamber is between the module wall and the enclosure wall, the interior chamber is between the module wall and a sound radiating surface positioned within the transducer module, and the interior chamber is acoustically coupled to an acoustic port to the surrounding ambient environment. The enclosure wall is movable relative to the module wall and movement of the enclosure wall causes ejection of a fluid out of the interior chamber to the ambient environment.

A transducer assembly including a frame, a diaphragm positioned within the frame, a surround connecting the diaphragm to the frame, the surround having a corner section and a plurality of corrugations formed within the corner section, wherein each corrugation of the plurality of corrugations comprises a length dimension perpendicular to a line of maximum stress intersecting a radial axis of the corner section, a voice coil extending from one side of the diaphragm and a magnet assembly having a magnetic gap aligned with the voice coil.

Continuous surround

An audio speaker having a suspension system including a surround to support a diaphragm within a frame and to reduce non-pistonic motion of the diaphragm at several resonant frequencies is disclosed. More particularly, embodiments of the surround include a film that undulates in a peripheral direction around the diaphragm and includes several undulations above and below a radial gap between the diaphragm and the frame. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
