The invention relates to benzothiazole-containing silanes of the formula I which are prepared by reacting benzothiazole-containing silanes of the formula II with a compound of formula IIIR&#x2014;H&#x2003;&#x2003;(III). The benzothiazole-containing silanes of the formula I can be used in rubber mixtures.

Mercaptosilanes are disclosed of the formula I wherein Ris an alkyl polyether group &#x2014;O&#x2014;(R&#x2014;O)&#x2014;R. They are prepared by a procedure in which a silane of the formula II is subjected to a catalyzed reaction with an alkyl polyether R&#x2014;H, R&#x2014;OH being split off, the molar ratio of the alkyl polyethers R&#x2014;H to the silane of the formula II is at least 0.5 and R&#x2014;OH is separated off from the reaction mixture continuously or discontinuously. They can be used in shaped articles.

Mercaptosilanes

The invention provides mercaptosilane-carbon black blends comprising at least 20 wt. % of mercaptosilanes of the general formula I and carbon black, the mercaptosilane-carbon black blend having an iron content of &#x3c;9 ppm. They are produced by mixing the mercaptosilanes of the general formula I with the carbon black. They can be used in rubber mixtures.
