An ion guide assembly () is disclosed comprising: two planar mounting components (); and first and second ion guides () mounted on the two planar mounting components such that the ion guides are spaced apart from each other, wherein at least one of the planar mounting components has an aperture () therethrough that is located between the positions on said at least one mounting component at which the first and second ion guides are mounted; and an ion optical device sized and configured to be inserted through the aperture in the planar mounting component and into the space between the first and second ion guides.

An ion guide is disclosed that comprises a plurality of electrodes arranged to form a multipole ion guide and one or more rigid support members. The plurality of electrodes comprises one or more groups of electrodes, and each group of electrodes comprises plural electrodes that are axially spaced apart from one another. The electrodes of one or more groups of electrodes are attached to one of the one or more rigid support members. One or more of the electrodes comprises a curved metal sheet, plate or strip.

Disclosed herein is an ion guide comprising a plurality of axially stacked plates, wherein at least some or all of said plates comprise: a first electrically conductive portion; and a second electrically conductive portion, wherein the second electrically conductive portion is electrically isolated from the first electrically conductive portion, the first and second electrically conductive portions being shaped and arranged relative to each other so as to define an opening through which ions are axially transmitted in use; wherein, in use, a first AC or RF voltage is applied to the first electrically conductive portion and a second AC or RF voltage is applied to the second electrically conductive portion in order to confine ions radially within said opening. The first and second electrically conductive portions () may be separately formed and interleaved within the ion guide to define the plates. Alternatively the first () and second () electrically conductive portions may be printed onto a common substrate ().
