A method for displaying guidance information during an image-guided surgical procedure comprises receiving, by one or more hardware processors, data from a tracking system associated with an elongate device comprising a flexible body and calculating, by the one or more hardware processors, at least one condition along a length of the flexible body based on the data. The method further comprises determining, by the one or more hardware processors, supplemental guidance information based on the at least one condition and augmenting, by the one or more hardware processors, one or more images with the supplemental guidance information to produce one or more augmented images. The method further comprises displaying the one or more augmented images on a display device at a surgeon console.

A method performed by a computing system comprises receiving a fluoroscopic image of a patient anatomy while a portion of a medical instrument is positioned within the patient anatomy. The fluoroscopic image has a fluoroscopic frame of reference. The portion has a sensed position in an anatomic model frame of reference. The method further comprises identifying the portion in the fluoroscopic image and identifying an extracted position of the portion in the fluoroscopic frame of reference using the identified portion in the fluoroscopic image. The method further comprises registering the fluoroscopic frame of reference to the anatomic model frame of reference based on the sensed position of the portion and the extracted position of the portion.

A system and method of monitoring a procedure includes a medical device. The medical device includes an elongate device including a flexible body, a tracking system disposed along at least a portion of the flexible body, and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the tracking system. The one or more processors are configured to receive a route to a target location in an anatomy, determine one or more features of the route based on a first anatomical representation, generate a reduced anatomical representation based on the one or more features of the route, receive real-time position information from the tracking system, associate the real-time position information to the reduced anatomical representation, and dynamically display the reduced anatomical representation with the associated real-time position information.

A medical imaging system comprises a teleoperated assembly including a medical instrument, a first imaging instrument, a second imaging instrument, a tracking fixture, and a processor. The first imaging instrument generates a first image of a field of view of the first imaging instrument and the second imaging instrument generates a second image. The tracking fixture is engageable along at least a portion of the second imaging instrument. The tracking fixture includes one or more features. A method for displaying guidance information during an image-guided medical procedure includes receiving, by one or more hardware processors, data from a tracking system associated with an elongate device comprising a flexible body, calculating a bend radius along a length of the flexible body, determining supplemental guidance information that includes an indication of whether the bend radius is less than a minimum allowable bend radius, augmenting images with the supplemental guidance information to produce augmented images by applying a scheme in which a portion of a graphical representation of the flexible body having a radius less than the minimum is augmented with a visual property, displaying the augmented images on a display device at a console, determining a direction to steer the flexible body to increase the bend radius, and displaying actuation information on the display device. The actuation information includes a directional indicator to display the direction.

An optical force sensor along with an optical processing apparatus and method are disclosed. The optical force sensor includes an optical fiber, a core included in the optical fiber, an instrument including the optical fiber, the instrument having a distal region, and a tubular structure encasing an end of the optical fiber and secured to the first conduit at the distal region of the instrument. When an optical interferometric system is coupled to the optical fiber, it processes reflected light from a portion of the core included within the tubular structure that does not include Bragg gratings to produce a measurement of a force present at the distal region of the instrument.

The processing unit is configured to, receive an anatomic model of a patient anatomy, receive shape sensor data from the instrument shape sensor while the instrument is positioned within the patient anatomy and registered to the anatomic model, determine a preferred fluoroscopic image plane for display on the display system based on the received shape sensor data and the area of interest, and provide an indication on the display system to guide positioning of a fluoroscopy system to obtain a fluoroscopic image in the preferred fluoroscopic image plane. An area of interest is identified in the anatomic model.

A system and method of planning a procedure includes a planning workstation including: a display system; and a user input device. The planning workstation is configured to: display image data via the display system; receive a first user input via the user input device; display via the display system a target of a medical procedure within the displayed image data identified based at least on the first user input; display an interactive image via the display system, the interactive image including the image data, a plurality of connected anatomical passageways, and the identified target; receive a second user input via the user input device; display via the display system a trajectory between the target and an exit point along a nearest passageway of the plurality of connected anatomical passageways identified based at least on the second user input; receive a third user input via the user input device; and adjust the interactive image based at least on the defined trajectory and the third user input.

In some embodiments, determining the second set of parameters comprises developing a calibrated model of the fiducial marker in the surgical coordinate space from the first fluoroscopic image data and the configuration of the first fiducial marker.

Systems and methods of pose estimation and calibration of perspective imaging system in image guided surgery

A computer-assisted medical device includes a control unit, first and second articulated arms, a first imaging device mounted to the first articulated arm, and a medical tool mounted to the second articulated arm. The control unit obtains first images from a second imaging device using a first imaging modality, determines first coordinates of multi-modal anatomical markers secured to a patient based on the first images, obtains second images from the first imaging device using a second imaging modality, determines second coordinates of the multi-modal markers relative to the medical tool based on the second images, at least one of the multi-modal markers including a body comprising a first region observable by the first imaging modality and a second region observable by the second imaging modality, and registers the medical tool to the patient based on the first and second coordinates and kinematic models of the first and second articulated arms.
