A description is given of a coloured, transparent, lithium aluminium silicate glass-ceramic and also of the use thereof, said glass-ceramic possessing a light transmission Y of 2.5% to 10% and a spectral transmission τof more than 1.0%.

Coloured transparent lithium aluminium silicate glass-ceramic and use thereof

A transparent colored glass ceramic, in particular an LAS glass ceramic, suitable for use as a cooking surface is provided. The transparent colored glass ceramic includes high-quartz solid solution (HQ s.s.) as a main crystal phase and exhibits thermal expansion of &#x2212;1 to +1 ppm/Kin the range from 20&#xb0; C. to 700&#xb0; C. The glass ceramic has from 3.0 to 3.6 percent by weight of lithium oxide (LiO) as constituents and either is colored with 0.003 to 0.05 percent by weight of vanadium oxide (VO) or is colored with 0.003 to 0.25 percent by weight of molybdenum oxide (MoO).

Glass ceramic with reduced lithium content

Chemically toughened glass is provided that has a depth of compressive stress for potassium of at least 4 &#x3bc;m and at most 8 &#x3bc;m; a compressive stress at a depth of 30 &#x3bc;m due to sodium exchange of at most 200 MPa and a minimum amount of at least 90 MPa where the thickness is 0.5 mm, at least 100 MPa where the thickness is 0.55 mm, at least 110 MPa in where the thickness is 0.6 mm, at least 120 MPa where the thickness is 0.7 mm, and at least 140 MPa where the thickness is 1 mm; a ratio of sodium exchange depth, in &#x3bc;m, to the thickness, in mm, that is greater than 0.130; and a normalized integral of tensile stress that is a storable tensile stress of at least 20.6 MPa and at most 30 MPa.

A transparent coloured lithium aluminium silicate glass ceramic and method of producing are provided. The glass ceramic has a brightness Y of 0.1% to 80% at thickness 4 mm. The glass ceramic has a D65 standard illuminant light, after passing through the glass ceramic with thickness 4 mm, with a colour locus in a white region W1 determined by coordinates in a chromaticity diagram CIExyY-2&#xb0;:

A sightglass for a stove is provided that has a substrate made of transparent coloured lithium aluminium silicate glass ceramic. The sightglass has a light transmittance of 0.1% to 50%. Standard illuminant D65 light, after passing through the glass ceramic, at a thickness of 4 mm, has a colour locus in the white region Wdetermined by the following coordinates in the chromaticity diagram CIExyY-2&#xb0;:

A glass ceramic containing lithium-ions and having a garnet-like main crystal phase having an amorphous proportion of at least 5% is disclosed. The garnet-like main crystal phase preferably has the chemical formula LiMMMMO, wherein Mis a bivalent cation, Mis a trivalent cation, Mis a tetravalent cation, Mis a pentavalent cation. The glass ceramic is prepared by a melting technology preferably within a Skull crucible and has an ion conductivity of at least 5&#xb7;10S/cm, preferably of at least 1&#xb7;10S/cm.

Ion-conducting glass ceramic having garnet-like crystal structure

The present invention relates to an improved cordierite glass-ceramic. In order to improve the materials properties, it is proposed that the glass-ceramic comprising SiO, AlO, MgO and LiO contains cordierite as main crystal phase and that a secondary crystal phase of the glass-ceramic comprises high-quartz solid solution and/or keatite solid solution. The invention further relates to a process for producing such a glass-ceramic and the use of such a glass-ceramic.

Cordierite glass-ceramic

A glass ceramic substrate made of a transparent, colored LAS glass ceramic is provided. The glass ceramic has a gradient layer with keatite solid solution and an underlying core with high-quartz solid solution as predominant crystal phase. The keatite solid solution in a depth of 10 &#x3bc;m or greater exceeds 50% of the sum of the high-quartz solid solution proportion and keatite solid solution proportion. The ceramization includes a crystal transformation step, in which the high-quartz solid solution is transformed at a maximum temperature in the range of 910&#xb0; to 980&#xb0; and a time period of between 1 and 25 minutes in part into the keatite solid solution.

Glass ceramic substrate made of a transparent, colored LAS glass ceramic and method for producing it

A glass element is provided that is made of a glass having SiO, AlO, BO, and NaO. The glass has a scratch tolerance that when scratches of 1 mm length are introduced using a Knoop diamond indenter which presses upon a surface of the glass with a force of 4 Newton and is displaced along the surface with a traverse speed of 0.4 mm/s, not more than 20% of the scratches have a noticeable width including visible chipping of more than 25 &#x3bc;m. In some embodiments, the glass, after chemical tempering, has sodium ions that are at least partially exchanged for potassium ions so that a compressive stress zone is provided at the surface of the glass. The compressive stress is at least 700 MPa and an exchange depth of alkali ions is at least 25 &#x3bc;m.

Glass element with high scratch tolerance

Zirconium-containing BaO- and PbO-free X-ray opaque glasses having a refractive index nof about 1.518 to about 1.533 and a high X-ray opacity with an aluminum equivalent thickness of at least about 180% are provided. Such glasses are based on a SiO&#x2014;AlO&#x2014;BOsystem with additions of KO, ZrO, and one or both of LaOand CsO. Such glasses may be used, in particular, as dental glasses or as optical glasses.

X-ray opaque barium-free glasses and uses thereof

Zirconium-containing BaO- and PbO-free X-ray opaque glasses having a refractive index nof about 1.57 to about 1.61 and a high X-ray opacity with an aluminum equivalent thickness of at least about 400% are provided. Such glasses are based on a SiO&#x2014;AlO&#x2014;LaO&#x2014;ZrO&#x2014;CsO system with additions of LiO, NaO, ZnO and/or TaO. Such glasses may be used, in particular, as dental glasses or as optical glasses.

Zirconium-containing BaO- and PbO-free X-ray opaque glasses having a refractive index nof about 1.480 to about 1.517 and a high X-ray opacity with an aluminum equivalent thickness of at least about 180% are provided. Such glasses are based on a SiO&#x2014;BO&#x2014;CsO&#x2014;KO&#x2014;LaOsystem with additions of AlO, LiO, NaO and/or ZrO. Such glasses may be used, in particular, as dental glasses or as optical glasses.

Zirconium-containing BaO- and PbO-free X-ray opaque glasses having a refractive index nof about 1.54 to about 1.58 and a high X-ray opacity with an aluminum equivalent thickness of at least about 500% are provided. Such glasses are based on a SiO&#x2014;BO&#x2014;AlO&#x2014;RO&#x2014;RO&#x2014;LaO&#x2014;ZrOsystem with optional additions of SnO. Such glasses may be used, in particular, as dental glasses or as optical glasses.
