A battery pack having an active thermal management system for use with a hybrid vehicle is provided. The active thermal management system is self-contained within a housing of the battery pack and includes a thermal channel configured to provide fluid communication between an interior of the housing and an exterior of the housing of the battery pack; a set of thermoelectric devices configured to transfer heat from battery cells of the battery pack to the thermal channel; an insulator arranged between the battery cells and the thermal channel; a device configured to control fluid flow via the thermal channel; and a controller configured to control the device to actively control heat transfer from the interior of the housing to the exterior of the housing of the battery pack to maintain the battery pack at a desired temperature.

Battery pack active thermal management system

A high voltage test and service module configured to electrically couple to a high voltage circuit of a vehicle is provided. The module includes a module housing, a fuse disposed in the module housing, a positive high voltage test point disposed in the module housing, and a negative high voltage test point disposed in the module housing. A first high voltage interlock (HVIL) connector is disposed in the module housing and configured to electrically couple to a high voltage interlock. A second HVIL connector is removably disconnected from the first HVIL connector to break the high voltage interlock. The positive and negative high voltage test points enable testing and monitoring of the high voltage circuit to determine if a voltage or current resides on the high voltage circuit before servicing thereof.

A control system for a mild hybrid vehicle is configured to detect whether a main contactor is open, the main contactor being connected between a primary battery system and a bi-directional direct current to direct current (DC-DC) converter and in response to detecting that the main contactor is open: command the DC-DC converter to operate in a boost mode to excite a motor-generator unit (MGU), after the excitation of the MGU has completed, command the DC-DC converter to operate in a buck mode, determine a previous voltage regulation feedback setpoint for the DC-DC converter, and control the DC-DC converter to maintain a voltage of the secondary battery system within a desired range by inserting a delay to a voltage control loop of the DC-DC converter such that the voltage control loop mimics a bandwidth of the MGU.

Selective response control of DC-DC converters in mild hybrid electric vehicles

Compact integrated battery packs for hybrid vehicles are fully integrated with an on-board cooling system and include both the battery cells for supplying a primary voltage, such as powering a belt-driven starter generator (BSG) unit for engine start/stop, as well as a direct current (DC) to DC converter for stepping down the primary voltage to a secondary voltage for powering low voltage components and/or recharging a lead-acid battery. The on-board DC to DC converter decreases packaging size and eliminates the need for an alternator, which further decreases packaging size. Primary and secondary voltage output ports can also be implemented for quick and easy connection to other components. Configurations include single-layer and dual-layer arrangements with integrated air or liquid cooling for placement in or beneath a trunk of a vehicle, behind or beneath seats in a cab of a pickup truck, and/or beneath a vehicle.

Compact integrated battery packs for hybrid vehicles

A battery assembly may include a battery and a battery housing. The battery may include an electrolyte vent to provide a pressurized electrolyte discharge during an electrolyte discharge event. The battery housing may contain the battery and may include an electrolyte control member to dissipate energy from and inhibit dispersion of the pressurized electrolyte discharge from the electrolyte vent during the electrolyte discharge event.
