A gigabit ethernet line driver includes a transmitter having both transmitter and active hybrid outputs. The transmitter consists of a plurality of transmitter clusters each connected to both the transmitter and active hybrid outputs. Each transmitter cluster includes a plurality of transmitter cells consisting of a driver cell and digital to analog converter connected to driver cell. A hybrid circuit connects between the transmitter outputs and receiver inputs for separating a receiver signal from the transmitter signal responsive to a tuning signal. The hybrid circuit includes first and second resistor strings connected between the receiver inputs and the transmitter outputs, the first and second resistor strings each having many resistors with taps on each of the resistors; corresponding transistor switches connecting the taps of each of the first and second resistor strings to the hybrid inputs; and a circuit that selects a pair of the plurality of transistor switches connecting to a particular tap in response to the tuning signal such that a current to compensate for a transmitted signal is provided at the receiver inputs.

Gigabit ethernet line driver and hybrid architecture

A gigabit ethernet line driver includes a transmitter having both transmitter and active hybrid outputs. The transmitter consists of a plurality of transmitter clusters each connected to both the transmitter and active hybrid outputs. Each transmitter cluster includes a plurality of transmitter cells consisting of a driver cell and digital to analog converter connected to driver cell. A hybrid circuit connects between the transmitter outputs and receiver inputs for separating a receiver signal from the transmitter signal responsive to a tuning signal.

A differential delay cell includes a current source for establishing an operating current and a differentially coupled transistor pair having a common node, two input nodes, and two output nodes. The common node is coupled to the current source, and the two output nodes are coupled to an impedance load. The impedance load establishes a time delay between each of the input nodes and a corresponding one of the output nodes. Differential output signals are generated at said two output nodes in response to input signals coupled to said two input nodes. An amplitude control device is coupled between the two output nodes for controlling an amplitude of the differential output signals being generated.

Differential delay cell having controllable amplitude output

A high-speed sampling system and an analog to digital converter are disclosed. One embodiment of a method of sampling a signal includes receiving an analog signal and generating first samples at a rate of Fs, and generating second sub-samples from the first samples at a rate of Fs/N and having a relative phase of approximately (360/N)*(i&#x2212;1) degrees, where i varies from 1 to N. In a first embodiment, at most two second sub-samplers are tracking the output of the first sampler at any point in time. In a second embodiment, only one of the N second sub-samplers are tracking the output of the first sampler at any point in time. A third embodiment further includes generating third samples from the second samples at a rate of Fs/N, and having a relative phase of approximately ((360/N)*(i&#x2212;1)+180) degrees. A method of interleaved analog to digital converting includes corresponding time interleaved ADCs receiving the third samples.

High-speed sampling architectures

A method and circuit are disclosed for mirroring current. The circuit includes a reference branch through which a first current flows, and at least one mirror branch through which a second current flows that is proportional to the first current. The circuit further includes a current amplifier having an input coupled, via a capacitor, to the reference branch and an output coupled to one of the reference branch and the at least one mirror branch. The current amplifier provides, at relatively high frequencies, a current to the circuit that substantially compensates for current passing through a parasitic capacitance appearing in the circuit.

Circuit and method for mirroring current

A pair of equivalent controlled impedance buffers are connected in a push-pull configuration to a transformer primary coil. A pair of equivalent pre-drivers are connected to the pair of buffers. Each pre-driver receives a driver input signal and outputs a buffer input signal (based on the input signal) and a DC offset compensation signal. Each buffer receives the buffer input signal from its associated pre-driver for buffered output as a line driver signal to the primary coil. Each buffer further receives the DC offset compensation signal generated its pre-driver to compensate for an offset introduced by the transformer. A balanced bridge hybrid is also connected between the buffer output and internal nodes. An adjustment circuit processes the hybrid output during training mode to generate an adjustment signal for application to an adjustable current source within each buffer. By manipulating the adjustable current source with the adjustment signal, the output impedance of the buffer can be made to match the characteristic impedance of a transmission line connected to the transformer secondary coil.

Self-adjustable impedance line driver with hybrid

A pair of equivalent controlled impedance buffers are connected in a push-pull configuration to a transformer primary coil. A pair of equivalent pre-drivers are connected to the pair of buffers. Each pre-driver receives a driver input signal and outputs a buffer input signal and a proportional flyback compensation signal. Each buffer receives the buffer input signal generated from one of the pre-drivers for buffered output as a line driver signal to the primary coil which induces a flyback voltage effect in each buffer. Each buffer further receives the flyback compensation signal generated from the other one of the pre-drivers, with the buffer operating to cancel the flyback voltage effect induced in that buffer using the flyback compensation signal received from the other one of the pre-drivers. An adjustment circuit further outputs an adjustment signal for application to an adjustable current source. By manipulating the adjustable current source with the adjustment signal, the output impedance of the buffer can be made to match the characteristic impedance of a transmission line connected to the transformer secondary coil.

Self-adjustable impendance line driver

A pair of equivalent controlled impedance buffers are connected in a push-pull configuration to the primary coil of a transformer. A pair of equivalent pre-drivers are connected to the pair of buffers. Each pre-driver receives a driver input signal and outputs a buffer input signal and a flyback compensation signal proportional thereto. Each buffer receives the buffer input signal generated from one of the pre-drivers for buffered output as a line driver signal to the primary coil. A flyback voltage effect is induced in each buffer due to the line driver signal applied to the primary coil by the other buffer. Each buffer further receives the flyback compensation signal generated from the other one of the pre-drivers, with the buffer operating to cancel the flyback voltage effect induced in that buffer by the line driver signal applied to the primary coil by the other buffer using the flyback compensation signal received from the other one of the pre-drivers.
