A technique is provided for pumping fluids from a wellbore. An electric submersible pumping system is deployed in a wellbore on a tubing. Free gas can potentially accumulate around the electric submersible pumping system, but a gas vent is positioned to remove free gas.

An apparatus to be disposed within a wellbore includes a production tubing in communication with a pump string and a bypass string at its distal end, wherein the pump string is configured to pump a wellbore fluid to a surface location through the production tubing, wherein the bypass string includes an upper fluid gate, a packer and a lower fluid gate, wherein the upper and the lower fluid gates are configured to selectively allow or disallow fluid communication with a bore of the bypass string, wherein the upper fluid gate is positioned above the packer and the lower fluid gate is positioned below the packer. The apparatus includes a check valve to prevent reverse fluid communication from the production tubing to the pump string.

A system and method for predicting a specific aspect, such as run life, of a component or system. The system utilizes a variety of complexity index values that are assigned to each component of the system. Each complexity index value is determined according to select physical parameters of the component. The summing of the complexity index values provides a system complexity index value that can be used to accurately estimate, for example, the run life of the system.

The cable extends through tubing that extends from a surface location. A second fluid flow path extends from the first zone of the wellbore to a surface location. A portion of the second fluid flow path extends through the tubing.

The production fluids typically include both liquid and gas phase components. Subsurface integrated production systems

A technique is provided for supplying electrical power to a submersible pumping system in a well completion. The pumping system includes a submersible electric motor, a pump driven by the motor and a separator for separating liquid and gas phase components of the wellbore fluids. The gas phase components are produced through a first passageway in an isolating packer, with liquid phase components being produced through a separate passageway through the packer. A transition assembly, including a connector adapter is provided in either the liquid or gas flow path, and either on the lower or upper side of the packer. The transition assembly incorporates a connector for securing upper and lower cable portions to one another. The lower cable portion extends from the connector to the electric motor, while the upper cable assembly extends from the connector to the earth's surface.

Method and apparatus for completing an oil and gas well

A system for pumping high gas-to-liquid ratio well fluids. The system includes a submersible pumping system having a submersible motor and a submersible pump driven by the motor. The system further includes deployment tubing, such as production tubing or coiled tubing, through which wellbore fluid is produced. A bypass is connected into the system to conduct a portion of the wellbore fluid intaken by the submersible pumping system to a position upstream of the pump intake. Because this recirculated fluid has a lower gas-to-liquid ratio and a lower viscosity, its reintroduction into the new wellbore fluid promotes efficiency of pumping and decreased wear on pumping system components.

System and method for improving fluid dynamics of fluid produced from a well

A dual submergible pumping system permits pumping of fluids from separate zones within a narrowly confined wellbore without commingling of fluids. The system includes a single deployment tubing from which a first and second submergible pumping system are suspended. The system further includes a fluid transport system having one fluid flow path defined by the hollow interior of the deployment tubing and a second fluid flow path isolated from the first flow path.

Dual electric submergible pumping systems for producing fluids from separate reservoirs

A technique is described for producing fluids from a series of wells. Production fluids from production wells are raised from the wells and deposited in a collection well. The production fluids may include both liquid and gas phase components. The collection well may serve to permit separation of the gas and liquid phase components under the forces of gravity. The fluids deposited in the collection well are separately displaced to a further collection and processing location. The head requirements for the pumping systems of the production wells is reduced by the need only to transmit the production fluids to the collection well. A pumping system in the collection well then produces some or all of the deposited fluids. Where the fluids include significant quantities of gas, the collection well pumping system may only produce the liquid-phase components, reducing the capacity requirements for the collection well pumping system.

Method and apparatus for producing wellbore fluids from a plurality of wells

A motor protector for use in protecting an electric motor in a subterranean environment. The motor protector utilizes a dual chamber system for absorbing the expansion and contraction of the internal fluids of a submergible electric motor. One of the chambers provides for the expansion and contraction of the internal fluids of a submergible electric motor. The other chamber is in fluid communication with the subterranean environment. A gas pocket is disposed within the motor protector between and in fluid communication with both of the dual chambers. The volume of gas couples the fluid pressure of the subterranean environment to the internal fluids of the electric motor without direct contact between the internal fluids of the electric motor and fluids from the subterranean environment.

System and method for absorbing the expansion and contraction of internal fluids of a sumergible electric motor

A technique is disclosed for completion of a well, such as an oil and gas production well. A packer is positioned in the well to divide the well into upper and lower zones. The packer has multiple passageways between the upper and lower zones. A pumping system is positioned in the lower zone for displacing wellbore fluids flowing from a production formation. The pumping system may include a liquid/gas separator, and express gas-phase components through one of the passageways and liquid-phase components through another. A conduit conveys the gas-phase components to a desired location. The liquid-phase components are conveyed to a collection location in the annular region surrounding the conduit. The conduit may be used for positioning a chemical injection line within the well, or for receiving a parameter sensing unit. The chemical injection and parameter sensing may be performed independently of gas production, and without interruption of either gas or liquid production.
