The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for horizontal well completions, including dual monobore completions, without certain well intervention operations. More specifically, the embodiments described herein generally eliminate certain well intervention operations, such as cleaning of cementing-related equipment and accessories (e.g., plugs, balls, and so forth), performing logging operations, running and cementing intermediate casings, and so forth. In certain embodiments, a production casing may be run into a wellbore and cemented into place within the wellbore directly adjacent a surface casing of the well. In certain embodiments, the production casing comprises first and second tubular sections longitudinally separated by an intermediate tapered section.

Systems and methods for horizontal well completions

Systems and methods are provided for detecting potential failures in logging winch systems to enable efficient maintenance are provided. An example of such a system may include a logging winch system that conveys a downhole tool into a wellbore on a cable and a data processing system. The logging winch system may include sensors that measure observed quantities relating to operation of the logging winch system. The data processing system may determine correlation signatures that relate the observed quantities to the operation of the logging winch system and may identify when one or more of the correlation signatures indicates abnormal operation.

Method and system for detecting faults and abnormal wear conditions in oil and gas wireline logging winch units

A method for real-time burner monitoring and control of a flare system, including analyzing a flare gas and/or flare exhaust gas by one or more analytical techniques and determining the flare gas and/or flare exhaust gas composition. The method may also include an ash particle monitoring system. The method further includes an analytical control unit for real-time adjustment of process conditions.

Real-time burner efficiency control and monitoring

Accurate, real-time formation fluids analysis can be accomplished using the systems and techniques described herein. A fluid analyzer includes a first mode of analysis, such as an optical analyzer, configured to determine a physical (optical) property of a fluid sample. The fluid analyzer also includes another mode of analysis, such as a composition analyzer, such as a gas chromatograph, configured to determine a component composition of the fluid sample. A data processor is configured to determine a quantity, such as a weight percentage, of a target component of the fluid sample in response results obtained from the first and second modes of analysis. Beneficially, the results are obtained at least in near real-time, allowing for interim results, such as results from the first analyzer to be used for one or more of tuning the compositional analyzer and for implementing quality control.

An apparatus for determining fluid phase fraction of a multiphase fluid mixture () comprises: &#x2014;a x-ray generator () arranged to emit a x-ray radiation spectrum comprising a low energy region and a high energy region, the high energy region including a Bremsstrahlung spectrum; &#x2014;a pipe section () through which the multiphase fluid mixture () flows comprising a measurement section (), said measurement section () being coupled to said x-ray generator (); &#x2014;a detector () coupled to said measurement section () and arranged to detect x-ray radiation that has passed through said multiphase fluid mixture (), the detector () being coupled to a multichannel analyzer () producing a measurement output comprising a low energy (LE) and high energy (HE) measurement counts; wherein the measurement output further comprises a low energy (LV) and high energy (HV) control counts, in a low energy and high energy control windows located on an edge of the Bremsstrahlung spectrum, respectively; and wherein the apparatus further comprises an electrical parameter control arrangement () coupled to the x-ray generator () and the detector (), the electrical parameter control arrangement () being arranged to calculate a first ratio of the high energy control count relative to the low energy control count (R=HV/LV) and a second ratio of the high energy measurement count relative to the low energy measurement count (R=HE/LE), and to adjust the electrical operation of the x-ray generator () based on an electrical parameter control function (F(V)) of said ratios that minimize a dependence of the electrical operation of the x-ray generator on the fluid phase fraction of the multiphase fluid mixture () flowing in the measurement section ().

Apparatus and method for fluid phase fraction determination using X-rays

A method for downhole fluid analysis is disclosed. The method includes positioning a downhole fluid sampling tool at first and second locations; extracting and compositionally analyzing samples of reservoir fluid while positioned at the first and second locations; comparing analysis results; and repositioning the tool to a third location depending on the results of the comparison. The compositional analysis can be performed using downhole gas chromatography and mass spectrometry systems and preferably can identify subtle non-homogeneities such as biomarkers. The fluid extraction can be performed using a focuses dual-flowline type sampling probe.

Downhole sample analysis method

Methods and related systems are described for improving component separations in chromatography through novel techniques. The improvements in separation is due primarily to the provision of differential acceleration of the components being separated. Various systems and methods for providing differential acceleration are described including: increasing the cross section of the column towards the column outlet, changing the thickness or other composition of stationary phase within the column, and providing a temperature and/or mobile phase velocity gradient along the column.

Methods and apparatus are provided for determining the composition of solid materials located downhole in a formation. Examples of solid materials that may be investigated downhole include scale and formation cores.

Downhole analysis of solids using terahertz spectroscopy

Methods and related systems are described for high pressure chromatographic analysis. The described system includes a flowpath adapted to flow a mobile phase and the sample at high pressures, an injector adapted to inject the fluid sample into a flowpath, a separation column adapted to operate at high pressures for separating various components, a detector and a processor that calculates the amount of at least one component of the fluid sample. The system can operate a pressures above 20 atm or even 100 atm, and temperatures above about 100 degrees Celsius. The system can deployed in a wellbore in a subterranean rock formation, and include fluid collection system for obtaining the fluid sample downhole. The system can also be located close to a wellhead and includes a tap in fluid communication with a surface flowline carrying produced fluids and the injector.

High pressure and high temperature chromatography

Methods and related apparatuses for chemically analyzing at least one sample of fluid, such that a gas flow of at least one fluid sample is directed into a mixing region of an ion mobility device, wherein the mixing region is in communication with at least one container having at least one other fluid. Further, creating an ion flow of gaseous ions, a mixture of gaseous ions or a gaseous neutral species from the at least one sample and the at least one other fluid. Further still, injecting the ion flow from the mixing region into at least one ion mobility assembly of the ion mobility device, the at least one ion mobility assembly comprising at least one mobility tube; and, detecting the ions from the ion flow exiting the ion mobility assembly.

Ion mobility measurements for formation fluid characterization

An indicator mixture that allows pH measurement over a broader range of pH or to a higher accuracy than available using conventional spectroscopic techniques. In particular, the mixture of the present invention is comprised of two or more reagents such that when combined, the reagent mixture is capable of either detecting: (1) a pH range broader or more accurate than that the reagents individually, or (2) pH more accurately than the reagents individually. Also disclosed are methods of making and using the mixture.

Spectroscopic pH measurement using optimized mixtures of reagents to extend measurement range

Methods and apparatus for analyzing gas-oil-water compounds in oilfield and other applications are disclosed using terahertz radiation. A sample analyzer includes a sample chamber having a fluid communication port configured to receive the sample. The analyzer also includes a filter to filter samples and selectively remove oil, water or gas from reservoir mixture received by the sample chamber. A terahertz (THz) radiation detector is provided in electromagnetic communication with the sample. The terahertz detector provides a detected output signal indicative of the terahertz electromagnetic radiation detected from the sample. In some embodiments, the device also includes a terahertz source illuminating the sample, the terahertz detector detecting a portion of the terahertz source illumination as modified by the sample. The detected portion of the spectrum of terahertz radiation can be processed to analyze the composition of the sample.
