A method according to one embodiment may include selecting at least one power supply, among a plurality of different power supplies, and coupling at least one available power supply to a load. The method may also include selecting at least one charging mode, among a plurality of different charging modes, to charge a rechargeable battery. Of course, many alternatives, variations, and modifications are possible without departing from this embodiment.

Power management system

A controller for a DC to DC converter. The controller may comprise linear mode circuitry and switch mode control circuitry. The linear mode control circuitry may be capable of providing a first control signal to a controlled device of the DC to DC converter. The controlled device may operate as a variable resistor in response to the first control signal to control an output voltage of the DC to DC converter. The switch mode control circuitry may be capable of providing a second control signal to the controlled device of the DC to DC converter. The controlled device may turn ON and OFF in response to the second control signal to control the output voltage of the DC to DC converter. One of the linear mode control circuitry and the switch mode control circuitry may be enabled. The controller may also include protection circuitry.

A multistage amplifier includes a first gain stage having a first input terminal and a first output terminal, and a second gain stage having a first input terminal. A first inter-stage resistive element is coupled in series to the first output terminal of the first gain stage and the first input terminal of the second gain stage to reduce the adverse affects of one gain stage on a previous gain stage. The multistage amplifier may also have a differential pair with a local feedback path for each transistor of the differential pair. Such local feedback helps to stabilize an imaginary component of the input impedance of the differential amplifier. Such stabilization also helps to reduce the adverse affects one gain stage may have on a previous gain stage.

Inter-stage coupling in multistage amplifiers

A transimpedance amplifier having a voltage amplifier and a feedback circuit coupled to an input terminal and an output terminal of the voltage amplifier. The feedback circuit includes an impedance element in parallel with a feedback resistive network. The feedback resistive network has a fixed effective resistance value. The feedback resistive network may have a first resistive element disposed between the input terminal of the voltage amplifier and a node, a second resistive element disposed between the output terminal of the voltage amplifier and the node, and a third resistive element disposed between the node and a ground terminal. Various systems utilizing a transimpedance amplifier consistent with the invention, including an optical communication system are also provided.
